Door To Hell? Giant Hole In The Desert On Fire For Over 40 Years (Photo)

The hole in the heart of the Karakum Desert was created in 1971 when a drilling rig used by Soviet geologists collapsed.

The team decided to burn off poisonous gases inside the crater but the fire, which they believed would be out within days, is still going.

At first glance, it could be a dramatic scene from a science-fiction movie.But this giant hole of fire in the heart of the Karakum Desert is not the aftermath of an attack on Earth, launched from outer space. It is a crater made by geologists more than 40 years ago, and the flames within have been burning ever since.

The earth crust beneath our feet is honeycombed, so it is no surprise that things like this pop up from time to time in different places on earth. Combine that with the presence of natural gas and petroleum ore in the crust and this is what we get, you "hell-heads".

Accordn to research,dis reserves wen tapped,can last a lyftym 4 d Turmenistan govt. It myt surprise u 2knw dat plans ar currently undaway 2 find ow 2 quell d fire tru scientific means,nd find ow d gases cn b tapped nd utilizd adequately by d Turkmenistani govt. D hole has no connectn wit hell at al,its just a crater full of burning natural gases beneath it.
