Current Top 5 are
1.Samsung
2.Apple
3.Nokia
4.Htc
5.Zte (first time ever)
sorry bb o. May be nigerian are keeping you alive. Or they should start android bb lol. But seriously, out of the top current top 5 now , 3 are running on android os despite their legal battles with apple. It seems it has come to stay at least for now.

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Canada's own BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (TSX:RIM) has fallen out of the top five ranking of smartphone makers based on market share, research group IDC said Friday.

"Research In Motion's BlackBerry unit decline continued last quarter, reaching levels not seen since 2009," it said in the report.

"Like Nokia, RIM is a company in transition. Smartphones running on its new platform, BB 10, will be released later this year. Until then, results like these may be a sign of things to come."

RIM has been working to turn around operations after watching its market share eroded by the growing popularity of Apple's iPhone and smartphones running Google's Android operating system.

The company hopes the debut of its BlackBerry 10 operating system and a new line of BlackBerry smartphones will help keep its subscribers from defecting to other devices, particularly in the United States.

This once great company was ruined by its former overpaid executives who lacked foresight! Most CEO's in North America only know how to do one thing....CUT JOBS!
Blackberry is pretty much dead everywhere else but AFRICA(Nigeria in particular)!

When your phone is seen as the mobile hardware version of yahoo messenger, what else would one expect?
Of course it's still useful in Nigeria... Nigeria is more backward than Genevieve's ass...

Maybe, they should ship about 300,000 units of BB Porsche to Nigeria....

I hope Microsoft or somebody teams up with RIM, tries to salvage this situation.

There is something a bit sad about seeing a formerly great brand dying..

SimonAndal: O! RIM
O! Canada.

At least they have something they can beat their chest too never mind their market shares on d fall. Now,what has Nigeria with our population of 160m and counting and our vast natural resources produced? Crude oil that the same Onyibos help us drill, send to their country and sell all forms of derivatives to us?Or is it Cassava bread?

I usually get pissed when we try removing the spec from other's eyes when we have a forest covering ours.

Mtsheeew!

Serves them right...this is what happens when you put fat faced CEOs who have no desire to accomplish anything new or groundbreaking in their life because they have "seen it all". Strong forward looking companies will find every means to put young, hungry for success and innovation graduates who will not sleep or rest until they create the next amazing thing or feature in a major product while companies like RIM are looking for old, tired experienced hands with very low drive for cutting edge innovation. Serves them right!

I'm still wondering why you can't copy paste with the keypad on a bb and why you phone gets hot when you turn on 3G.

It failed to capitalize on the touch screen demand.

BBM was revolutionary though. But I prefer my iPhone.

Am i surprised?
The answer is NO!
Not after people are currently visiting therapist due to swollen thumbs and aching fingers caused by the endless pinging thing.
For someone to imagine i keep paying BIS subscription for two BB phones and don't make use of it more than 5mins on each phone a whole is quite silly on my part too.

Apple RULES anyday anytime only that typing on touch screen is always an issue for me.

I see the market crashing further.
Even Kenya and Ghana that caught the BB craze long after we did are already seriously doing away with that device.

Nigerian market will keep them afloat in the African market because we consider anything and everything a status symbol.

Our Country by its very nature is a research in motion and you can quote me on that...we innovate and we move on, there's no stopping us - CANADA, EH!!

Yeah...?? Well, news flash for ya dude, the average Nigerian in Canada makes same monthly salary as your Senators in Naija...not the stolen part, but the legitimate salary part as I saw on a thread here sometimes ago!!

That means they do not need to keep up with people in Naija!
Thanks to fake BB and stolen used BB phones, where would Naija find BB phones they can afford?? Smh

Did you know that average home in Canada is like 1/2 million dollars and you need to times that by 155 to convert to naira!?!

So, I think you get the picture...don't even go on that route dude

So you own a BB because its in the top 5? Talking like you knew bb's position before this happened.

I am really sorry for people like you who buy stuff for buying sake without seeing any tangible service it can offer you.

The reason a lot of us use a BB is for nothing else except the special internet bundles it has...if andriod or iphone has bundles I think they'd be popular too among nigerians

One authorized dealer in Ikeja...should Nigerians in Canada bow down because of that when there can be 10 authorized BB Stores in A single shopping mall in Canada?? By the way...you mean an authorized dealer for a BB assembled in Mexico city?? Lol

Only upper middle class people in Nigeria can afford an Original new BB phone without stress, k! That would be top 1%
