A 21-year old Nigerian football player, Henry Chinonso Ihelewere, died during a football match in Romania on Sunday.

Ihelewere, who was playing for CS Delta Tulcea against local team FC Balotești, collapsed 15 minutes after coming onto the pitch.

The ambulance was called and doctors tried to resuscitate him for around half an hour.

The striker had been playing in the Balkan country since 2007 when he joined Farul Constanta.

"What can I say? We're all shocked," Universitatea Cluj boss Cristian Dulca, who previously coached the Nigerian, was quoted as saying. "It's a tragic day for Romanian football.

"I trained him for a year and a half and I can tell you he was a real example in training. He could've become a very good player."

thats so sad. they should suspend the next round of matches like serie A did for that guy that died. may he RIP sad.

My wish is that after these footballers pass, their hearts should be donated to science. The rate that footballers are dropping dead around the world is alarming. It's not only happening to professionals. Even junior players are succumbing.

I wonder why blacks seem to have higher risk of pulmonary ailment amongst young people.
I think health experts should do some research and give warning of hints and symptoms.
This is a young and fit man that is used to rigorous exercise, its so disheartening.
