Clark's Statement Senseless & Misguided - IBB by chucky234(m): 8:20am On Aug 06, 2012
Former military president, Ibrahim Babangida has reacted to media reports attributed to Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark in which the former information minister blamed Babangida and former president Olusegun Obasanjo of not doing enough to stop the killings being perpetrated by the Boko Haram sect in the North.

But reacting yesterday in a statement signed by his media aide, Kassim Afegbua, but personally signed by Babangida, the former military president accused Chief Edwin Clark of displaying ethnic mindset which would not help in solving the onerous challenge confronting the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

Absolving himself of any complicity in the security debacle facing the nation, the retored General admonished the Ijaw leader to drop the toga of an ethnic champion, if he was really sincere about helping the embattled president to solve the menace of Boko Haram insurgency.

The statement reads:
“The statement reportedly credited to Chief Edwin Clark on Friday, 3rd August, 2012 in several newspapers and online media to the effect that General IBB has a hand in Boko Haram, is the subject of this response. We are ashamed to state here that rather than coming up with plausible and efficacious solution[s] to the insecurity in the country, what the self-acclaimed elder statesman came up with was buck-passing, such odium and rancid outburst, to the extent of trying to accuse General Ibrahim Babangida on the Boko Haram menace.

We view this misguided and senseless statement in very bad taste and we take very strong exceptions to his drooling and implied conclusion.

For the purpose of putting the records straight, General Ibrahim Babangida, Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), former President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces and civil war hero, does not and will not have a hand in anything untoward against the unity and stability of the Nigerian State.

Having seen it all in life, and now enjoying his retirement in Minna, Niger State, General Ibrahim Babangida has paid his dues by serving his fatherland to the best of his ability at various times in the history of the country.

Having invested so much in the unity and stability of the country, to the extent of fighting in the civil war to keep the country together, it is out of place for anyone, least of all, an old man of Edwin Clark’s nomenclature, to input directly or indirectly that the great IBB should prove his innocence on the Boko Haram menace.

We want to believe that Chief Edwin Clark was quoted out of context, but if indeed he did say what was credited to him, we are forced to accept the conclusion that on account of his age, his senses have since departed him.

He needs our empathies and not sympathies. We have since known Chief Edwin Clark to be loose cannon in public discourse. He deserves our pity.

We were expecting Chief Edwin Clark to use the opportunity of his forum to advance solutions to the insecurity situation in the country with particular reference to the Boko Haram crisis. General Ibrahim Babangida has offered several approaches and methodologies to addressing the precarious situation both in public and private, and had stated without equivocation that dialogue would serve as a better tool than this militant approach which is not yielding appropriate result.

He had also stated that President Goodluck Jonathan should use some of the respected Muslim clerics in the North as middlemen to reach the members of Boko Haram and appeal for calm and understanding, in the interest of the unity and stability of the system.

Needless to state that Government is a huge institution with several options open to it. And the earlier we discard this old method of reactionary approach and adopt a proactive one, in handling sensitive situations such as the one under reference, the better it will be for the country.

With ethnic mindset of a Chief Edwin Clark, we can understand why the country appears fixated and why there has not been nationally accepted approach to combating this Boko Haram menace. Anyone who sees the Boko Haram menace as strictly a northern affair would be exhibiting crass ignorance about leadership in a multi-ethnic configuration like Nigeria.

IBB should take a stand on the Boko haram issue.
Re: Clark's Statement Senseless & Misguided - IBB by ozalogbo: 9:42am On Aug 06, 2012
Let us not be sentimental here. Lets stop passing blames. The answer is with Jonathan. Indeed the ball is in his court. This nonsense must stop. It is either he crushes this terrorism as the commander in chief and restores peace, or he negotiates with them and restores peace. Either way peace must come. For him to pass blame may well be interpreted as a sign of confusion and helplessness. Is he overwhelmed? Jonathan is the Commander-in-Chief! He is the President! It's either he emplys the military option or the political option.

So killing of Nigerians in their territory of influence is "Johnathan's problem"? tongue
Wether you believe it or not "nne ALA" (earth's own archangel) can be a very sick b*itch, when she wants to.
IBB watchout, She is coming for you, because you have killed her children.

vb0mb: IBB should take a stand on the Boko haram issue.

What stand? Is he your president? If Jonathan believe he or anyone else is funding Boko Haram and have not arrested, jail or execute them - then it means that Presido is partnering/collaborating/funding/aligning with them for the killing of innocent Nigerians.

The fact that you do not see the problem with an unbiased view is very hypocritical of you and anyone else sharing your view.

All the long statement Kasim Afebua wrote there does not pinpoint IBB's stand,we asked him to take a stand by either condemning outrightly or supporting but none was done only ranting and insulting and self praises.... IBB condemn the act and distance yourself from them.
We know that buhari is the chairman and you are a major shareholder.

The way some of us comment gives the impression that the President is feeling frustrated already. Come on, he is the President. He commands the State Security Service, the National Intelligence Agency, the Directorate of Military Intelligence, and other security institutions. If all these cant help, he may reach out to British, American and Israeli intelligence structures to assist. Calling on IBB to denounce BH is laughable. Who among us does not believe that some prominent Northern politicians want Jonathan to fail. He has to stand up as a man. Is it not surprising that the security agencies keep telling us 'we know the sponsors of Boko Haram and will soon name them' and up till now have named no one? Is it not surprising that the President himself said BH people are in his govt. What has he done with that info. Jona stop blame blame and do something

Silly people, passing blame on others while trying to appear innocent.

JONATHAN f.cking knows the sponsors, WHY THE HECK is he not naming them?

Jonathan is the only obstacle to solving the BOKO HARAM (his northern military arm) issues.

LOL And when he does in big English, Jonathan would then tell Nigerians who the sponsors are?
Re: Clark's Statement Senseless & Misguided - IBB by ozalogbo: 12:39pm On Aug 06, 2012
Jonathan is the President of Nigeria, and security of lives and property of Nigerians is his constitutional responsibility. If he thinks IBB can help him solve the problem of insecurity, then he should approach IBB for help. On the other hand if he has intelligence that IBB is responsible then he should go after him. Very simple! Not this blame game!

I don't think GEJ will. He's in a class of his own.

Babangida on the other hand, will be cleanly absolved of all accusation of sponsoring Boko haram.

Its so easy, you wonder why he hasn't done it already. Except to make excuses for BH. #Signs of a guilty man#.

A beg, let Jonathan go do his job!
Is it IBBs duty to condemn or approve issues facing the country? As far as I know, he is an ordinary citizen like me with no position.

When terrorists struck in the US, everybody including democrats and republicans rose in unison to condemn the attacks.
No body has asked IBB to come and take over the security challenge. All that Clark request of him is to make a public statement against this terrorism.
I don't know how this is so difficult for such a statesman to do. is it rocket science for a former head of state of a country to speak out against the evil ravaging his country?
The northern leaders are hypocritical in their approach of this Boko Haram issue. They feign ignorance in the afternoon and go behind in the night to support them.

What is the rational for Clark to tell IBB to publicly condemn Boko Haram. Mind you, both IBB & OBJ has public solicited for peacely and urged all citizen to shun violence so what did you expect them to do again (Abi Clark want IBB to wear uniform to fight BH while its drunker fisherman bother continue to dey eat Cassava bread for aso rock). If IBB came up to talk tough now, na the same Clark and its Ijaw Cabals go claim say some ex-general and president want to disrupt their son administration.

GEJ and his handlers (Clark & other cabals) can never stop blaming someone else for its clueless.

In my opinion, IBB can’t fall so low as to supporting senseless Criminals who are going about wrecking havoc on their own people. IBB is too smart for that. He voices is not really needed in this fight, Honestly. Goodluck should handle them alone with all the resources at his disposals, that all.

We are asking the Northern leaders to come out and take a strong stand against the BH. Well, it is easy to say since many of you guys do not live in the North cos, if you do, u will understand that they are also affraid of them. Those that came out to take a stand, what protection did the govt. offer them and do you know how many Imam and anti-BH have lost thier lives. In the past few week two prominet emir almost lost thier live to BH while the VP house was not speared. Do you think they (BH) have regards for Sultan, IBB, Buhari an co...
