I don't know but I can NEVER represent another country apart from ancestry..

And my kids will NEVER represent another country apart from my ancestry..

Hakeem Olajuwon played for America - but they still refer to him as a Nigerian.. So, he's more of a paid mercenary...

All the ones who represented the UK, are still black Africans when they fill employment forms tomorrow after the olympics - but I'm not here to critique anyone, each to their own..

Nigerian-born athletes visit Team Nigeria
August 3, 2012 by Pius Ayinor 11 Comments
A huge number of Nigerian athletes representing other countries at the Olympics and those who are living in the diaspora are visiting the Nigerian secretariat at the Games Village as they try to identity with their roots.

A star athlete for Britain Christine Ohuruogu who was one of the numerous visitors said in British jersey, “Yes, I am a Nigerian. My dad told me I am from Imo State. It’s incredible. I love Nigeria.”

Marilyn Okoro added, “I came to identify with my people. I wish you the best of luck in the Olympics.’’

Another from the Team GB Abiodun Oyepitan was not left out, “It’s lovely to be here. You get good feelings being around your people.”

There has been also scores of Nigerians who are volunteers in the Olympics visiting to the Nigerian centre to identify themselves and speak the language. They ask numerous questions ranging from politics to the state of the nation and of course, sports in Nigeria.

One of them asked, “Is there stable light in Nigeria now. I came around with my dad but we had to change our date of departure because I was scared of darkness.”

A technical lane mix-up with the United States team resulted in a poor performance for the British team and disqualification for the American team.

If selling your soul for riches = lucky..

I guess they're lucky...

Selling your soul ? Nope . They had ambitions and they went after it unfortunately(for Nigeria and FORTUNATELY for them)Nigeria couldn't help them achieve their dream so they went to a more stable , reasonable country that would help them . Lets not deceive ourselves Nigeria has the Money to empower this guys with world class trainers and training facilities but would Nigeria do it ? A big fat NO ! We would rather steal the money and set up committee's to investigate this and that . The NOC(Nigerian Olympic committee ) wouldn't release money to sponsor this athletes UNTIL a year or six months to the event . We had 4 GOOD YEARS to prepare for the 2012 olympics but we would rather wait until the final year before we start our regular "fire brigade" preparations. I can't be mad at them for going after their dreams after all the technological advancement America/ The UK has achieved today was built on the effort and sweat of Nazi and Soviet scientists that absconded from their countries to the USA / UK. Good luck to the athletes who choose to go after their dreams .

P:s: Do you know an athlete called Francis Obikwelu ? read up on him . He was once the fastest man in Africa and represented Nigeria , At some point he had a career threatening injury and the Ministry of Sports in Nigeria abandoned him , The Portuguese decided to help him ONLY if he nationalizes for them and he agreed . He went for the 2004 Olympics as a Portuguese athlete and he came 2nd/ won silver at the 100m men race and then guess what , The Nigerian Sports committee went to him to congratulate him and then asked if he could carry the Nigerian flag (the same country that abandoned him) he refused and then they unleashed an all out smear campaign against him . Unbelievable right ? I know.

igbo2011: Look at Christine Ohuruogu and Lawrence Okoye they are of Nigerian ancestry. If Nigeria had more economic opportunities their parents would have stayed in Nigeria and they might have been able to play for the Nigerian Olympic team.
No matter how vibrant the economy of a country is there'll always be emmigration...

You mean Chief Tunde Fagbenle whose articles are published on the back page of Sunday Punch? I guessed as much because from his previous articles that I have read, he has interests in supporting young ones who are into sports.

Remember the Rolake girl from Ibadan who plays tennis? He did his best to garner support for her so that she could be groomed into becoming a tennis star for Nigeria in the future. So I'm not surprised his daughter is into sports.
He is a tennis star in his own right.
