The 6th edition of the tournament kicks off on August 19 and ends on September 8. Nigeria's Falconets are in Group B alongside Brazil, Italy and South Korea. Other groups are:
Group A: Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Switzerland.
Group C: Peoples Republic of Korea (North Korea), Norway, Argentina, Canada.
Group D: Ghana, USA, Germany, China.
Nigeria's matches are as follows:
August 19th - Nigeria v South Korea 10:00am
August 22nd - Brazil v Nigeria 7:00am
August 26th - Italy v Nigeria 8:20am

NB: All times in Nigerian time.

In the 2004 edition, Nigeria played against both Brazil and Italy in the same group, beating the Brazilians 3-2 and drawing 1-1 with Italy. At the last tournament in 2010, the Falconets went all the way to the final loosing 0-2 to the host nation, Germany. Can the Falconets go one better this time, by winning the cup and thus becoming the first African team to win a FIFA women's tournament?

Congrats to Nigeria's Falconets! Judging from the highlights and stats from the game, it seemed they played well. The win over Korea is Nigeria's 4th consecutive opening match victory in this competition. The last time the Falconets lost their opening World Cup match was in 2004 against China. Here is hoping that the Falconets give Brasil a good run for their money. I'm predicting either a draw or victory for Naija.
