Indications emerged, Tuesday, that the late Cynthia Osokogu, the only daughter of General Frank  Osokogu (rtd), whose  body was discovered in a Lagos morgue a month after she was declared missing, could have been murdered by her facebook acquaintances.

Already, six persons, among them two  university students, a pharmacist and an employee of the hotel where the 24-year-old post-graduate student was murdered have been arrested.

DEATH BY FACEBOOK: The late Cynthia Osokogu

Investigation into the murder, as reliably gathered, revealed that Cynthia was strangled to death in the hotel by her assailants, who thereafter left with an undisclosed amount, her student identity card and phones.

Report said the beautiful and vivacious Cynthia had chatted with the two undergraduates on facebook for months.

In the process, they reportedly got to know that she owned a boutique in Nasarawa State, following which they reportedly had a business proposal with her, promising  to host her whenever she visited Lagos.

On her arrival at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, on July 22, 2012, she was reportedly picked up by the two undergraduates  and driven to a hotel in Festac Town. Unknown to her, she was embarking on a journey of no return.

At the hotel, her drink was reportedly drugged before she was strangled to death. Vanguard reliably gathered that after her death, one of her assailants  left the room and later put a call to the hoteliers, informing them that there was a corpse in one of the rooms.

The hotel, as gathered, took the corpse to the Isolo General Hospital mortuary. Sources informed that efforts by the hoteliers to contact family of the deceased proved abortive as there was reportedly nothing to trace her close relatives or friends.

Meanwhile, back in Nasarawa State where her family is said to be based, apprehension had set in following her disappearance. She was, therefore, declared missing, with her pictures dropped at some police divisions in the state.

How the suspects were arrested

Vanguard reliably gathered that after the murder,  the killers deleted all information and chats with the deceased from their facebook. But, along the line, the deceased phone was  dialled and one of the suspects reportedly answered. When  the call log was checked from the service provider, the receiver was traced to Festac Town in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.

Again, the Close Circuit Television stationed in the hotel was said to have revealed identities of the killers following which two of them  were arrested and their confessional statement led to the arrest of others.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to have bought the drugs with which they drugged Cynthia’s drink  from a pharmacist, thereby leading  to his arrest. It was at this point that her family was reportedly  contacted.

Vanguard reliably gathered that during investigation, the two undergraduates, whose identities could not be ascertained,  confessed to have killed Cynthia.

They also reportedly confessed to belong to a syndicate which specialised in luring unsuspecting  rich women with the aim of dispossessing them of their belongings, particularly cash.

The late Cynthia, as gathered, was not their first victim, as they were said to have confessed to the police that she was their sixth victim.

When contacted, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the arrest, but was not forthcoming with details

I don't why Nigerian journalists always try to conceal the identity of suspects/perpetrators of crime as if they're scared of the unknown. Identities of the suspect should be made, the life of such a young and promising lady shouldn't be wasted in vain.

you are right at the bolded, but i dscovered that they usualy do it where the victim and pepetrator are fro diferent tribe,
also when the investigation is on goin.

sometimes this reason is not ok , sometimes its ok

It would take an extremely naive and gullible individual to give up personal details to complete strangers that have only ever been "met" on a computer screen, and yet that is the entire premise behind enrolment in such websites as Farcebook and Twatter.

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever divulge a single personal detail to strangers on the internet, and hell will have frozen over solid before I ever find a logical reason to seek real-life encounters with "friends" found on the internet.

As Charles Darwin expounded, natural selection favors ONLY those members of any particular species whose survival instincts are sound, leaving those who are less intelligent and alert to be picked off and eaten by predators, which is precisely what happened to this particular woman, as her reward for accepting a sedative-spiked drink from her Farcebook "friends", who then probably took the liberty of copulating with her unconscious body before finally snuffing her out.

Condolences to the family. Natural selection is inherently cruel, and can be a muffuguh at times.

scary as this news is, I can confidently tell you that most girls in Nigeria are in no way better than this lady. They'll be quick to meet you up at any location without any previous acquaintance.

The unbelievable part is that they are willing to jump into car and travel to any city to meet a complete stranger. These girls don't even want to know whether you are married or not. Just recharge their BIS and send them 20k with a flight ticket, the deal is sealed.

similar incident took place around 2007 involving a popular Hausa movie actres "Maryam Iyana" that was invited to meet up with a guy in Lagos, that incident led to the guy making a pornographic movie with her which later went viral on social media.

Log onto Facebook and ask most of our university girls this " when are you coming to see me ?", the response will always be a positive one. I'm beginning to think most of these girls usually log out their senses before login into Facebook. RIP Cynthia.

That's why it is important that before one embarks on any trip, one should make one or two people aware of one's destination and hosts.

The heart of man is abominably evil. For the men to have admitted that she was their sixth victim,it prolly means they have murdered twice that number of women. What a tragic waste. Serial killers *shudder*

I won't say RIP because a soul wasted so wickedly and violently will not have peace until justice is served to the fullest. So sad sad

May God continue to save us n we should also be conscious of strangers. This is another avenue for girls to be careful. This reminds me of a guy I met on bbm, he was so silly enof to travel four hours away from lagos during d first week of our knowing eachother, I simply told him to foolishly drive back to his base cos I'm и̣̣̣̥ϕ† even gonna set my eyes on him. ‎ Ђδω can u take such a big risk for someone you've known for just few days. This story reminded me of a past experience I had with a particular guy.I met him on fb too and the first thing he asked me was what I do for a living.after telling him,he told me he had a business to do.he needed 1million naira from me. I didn't even have that kind of money so I lied and promised to give him the money.and the next thing he told me was I should book for a hotel for us to meet and I shouldn't tell anyone about my whereabout.then I sensed danger! Since then till now I never called him again.I deleted his contact and blocked him as a fb friend.women out there shld be very careful especially the wealthy ones.these men are roaming everywhere looking for whom to rob and kill.RIP CYNTHIA.

I was chilled to the bones with the report when I finally got around to reading it. The title had scared me off at first.

Anyway, I've met up with at least one person I met on a social network. If there had been allusions to need of any kind (even a need to improve my life conditions) from the person, I would never have gone. It's disappointing how gullible people can get.

horrible. but something's still not right. if she trusted the suspects enough to fly all the from nassarawa to Lagos(I'm even assuming she had millions in cash on her), why would they have to kill her to get the money?. i mean, the hard part is getting her to show, right? string her along and she'll drop over n over,
and, a girl that's willing to go straight from the airport to a hotel room, you shouldn't have to drug her to get jiggy. and if they did, why then kill her?when you can be easily caught. the payoff just doesn't seem worth it. i know its very possible the story is 'as is'. there are people that wicked.
but I'd hate to cast aspersions on the character/judgment of the poor girl. something. is just off about the whole story. its too....generic. like, 'just give them a story- bare bones'.

Thats the practice, you don't reveal alleged suspects' name when they've not been proven guilty as charged.
We've seen a lot of suspect shown to the public at the end proven innocent.

Sir, you've made some insightful analysis. But I want to assure you that they're Killers in this country that don't really require a motive to make a kill. The Thrill of a Kill is Enough for them. The fact that law enforcement agencies haven't labelled anyone a Serial killer doesn't mean they don't exist.
