Ok...so I dug up the WHO article stating that 77% Nigerian women are bleaching, see page one here: http://new.paho.org/hq/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_view&gid=17843&Itemid=1091 The pertinent quote: In Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Togo, 25%, 77%, 27%, 35% and 59% of women, respectively, are reported to use skin lightening products on a regular basis.1 "1" in the above quote referencing a source that WHO used to make this statement. I also decided to look up the source, and what do you know...it's an awareness, promotional/informational package on mercury use. Here is the original quotation per the cited source in the WHO article The use of skin lightening products in African nations is very common. Studies Here is the link to the source that WHO used: http://www.unep.org/hazardoussubstances/Portals/9/Mercury/AwarenessPack/English/UNEP_Mod1_UK_Web.pdf And that is where it stops...there are no other cited sources or studies to back the quote. So we have no idea about how this conclusion was extrapolated, samples used or anything else - or if this was completely cooked up. And even worse, the source link issues a disclaimer on the last page: This publication is intended to serve as a guide. While all reasonable precautions have been taken |

CAMEROONPRIDE: according to the study Wrong - the article says that 77% of Nigerian women bleach. Not including men or children. And that even that claim seems to be as spurious as it gets. |

All this na talk the study remains , I don't even care It's not a a bleaching competition, I wanted Onila to stop pointing fingers and stereotyping a country. Bleaching is bad even if It's 1% 1 Like |

CAMEROONPRIDE: All this na talk the study remains , I don't even care It's not a a bleaching competition, I wanted Onila to stop pointing fingers and stereotyping a country. Of course bleaching is bad. But there is no study to point to. That was my point. And practice what you preach too. |
