LIFE IS VAIN UPON VAIN

Today I lay on my bed weak,
Alone and unable to speak;
And my body and muscles stiffen with cold,
I was young, but now lonely and old.

I have worked hard as I can
To be a successful, accomplished man,
I have seen many relatives grow
Even a Siamese cat, a Tortoise and Crow

I have sailed through oceans and seas,
Flew over the land and tallest trees
To England, Portugal, Egypt and Spain;
With the intention to avoid the world’s pain!


Then I got married and it was good,
Never felt my soul in such passionate mood;
I held her hands I wanted more,
I kissed her lips I wanted more;
Never have I felt that way before.

She loved me and I love her so much,
I appreciated her affections and golden touch;
Her fragrance like lilies hung in the air
And I adored her wavy, astonishing hair.
Our love was sealed in heaven,
And not like Adam and Eve in Garden Eden.

One dull afternoon, death came and knocked on my door,
And left me sad and sore;
With its evil hands took my wife away,
My beautiful bride was dead that very day.

I mourned and wept every night,
My wife, whose eyes were dazzling and bright;
Who I cherished was dead,
And my heart bled.

I wait for the angel of death
To take away my breath
And save me from this grieve and pain
Because life is vain upon vain!

Felt so sorry,but a lonely man shall read his game truly,cos such is life.we came lonely and lonely shall we return.take hrt cos dat is reality of life!

I appreciate your knowledge of literature. But I don't think the tone is that of repentence and a call for change....the poet doesn't regard himself as a sinner whom nemesis has caught on.
Rather, the tone should be that of melancholy
