What Is Replacement Theology? by OLAADEGBU(m): 5:28pm On Aug 26, 2012 |
Question: "What is replacement theology / supersessionism?" Answer: Replacement theology (also known as supersessionism) essentially teaches that the church has replaced Israel in God’s plan. Adherents of replacement theology believe the Jews are no longer God’s chosen people, and God does not have specific future plans for the nation of Israel. All the different views of the relationship between the church and Israel can be divided into two camps: either the church is a continuation of Israel (replacement/covenant theology), or the church is completely different and distinct from Israel (dispensationalism/premillennialism). Replacement theology teaches that the church is the replacement for Israel and that the many promises made to Israel in the Bible are fulfilled in the Christian church, not in Israel. So, the prophecies in Scripture concerning the blessing and restoration of Israel to the Promised Land are “spiritualized” or “allegorized” into promises of God's blessing for the church. Major problems exist with this view, such as the continuing existence of the Jewish people throughout the centuries and especially with the revival of the modern state of Israel. If Israel has been condemned by God, and there is no future for the Jewish nation, how do we explain the supernatural survival of the Jewish people over the past 2000 years despite the many attempts to destroy them? How do we explain why and how Israel reappeared as a nation in the 20th century after not existing for 1900 years? The view that Israel and the church are different is clearly taught in the New Testament. Biblically speaking, the church is completely different and distinct from Israel, and the two are never to be confused or used interchangeably. We are taught from Scripture that the church is an entirely new creation that came into being on the day of Pentecost and will continue until it is taken to heaven at the rapture (Ephesians 1:9-11; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-17). The church has no relationship to the curses and blessings for Israel. The covenants, promises, and warnings are valid only for Israel. Israel has been temporarily set aside in God's program during these past 2000 years of dispersion. After the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), God will restore Israel as the primary focus of His plan. The first event at this time is the tribulation (Revelation chapters 6-19). The world will be judged for rejecting Christ, while Israel is prepared through the trials of the great tribulation for the second coming of the Messiah. Then, when Christ does return to the earth, at the end of the tribulation, Israel will be ready to receive Him. The remnant of Israel which survives the tribulation will be saved, and the Lord will establish His kingdom on this earth with Jerusalem as its capital. With Christ reigning as King, Israel will be the leading nation, and representatives from all nations will come to Jerusalem to honor and worship the King—Jesus Christ. The church will return with Christ and will reign with Him for a literal thousand years (Revelation 20:1-5). Both the Old Testament and the New Testament support a premillennial/dispensational understanding of God's plan for Israel. Even so, the strongest support for premillennialism is found in the clear teaching of Revelation 20:1-7, where it says six times that Christ's kingdom will last 1000 years. After the tribulation the Lord will return and establish His kingdom with the nation of Israel, Christ will reign over the whole earth, and Israel will be the leader of the nations. The church will reign with Him for a literal thousand years. The church has not replaced Israel in God's plan. While God may be focusing His attention primarily on the church in this dispensation of grace, God has not forgotten Israel and will one day restore Israel to His intended role as the nation He has chosen (Romans 11). http://www.gotquestions.org/replacement-theology.html |

[quote author=OLAADEGBU]Question: How can something replace itself ? The church has not replaced Israel, the Church is Israel starting with the Jews and then the Gentiles. God has one covenant dealing with the entire world made up of Jew or Gentile and that is the blood covenant through Christ Jesus. God is no longer dealing with a people based on race. Replacement theology teaches that the church is the replacement for Israel and that the many promises made to Israel in the Bible are fulfilled in the Christian church, not in Israel. mostly true ! So, the prophecies in Scripture concerning the blessing and restoration of Israel to the Promised Land are “spiritualized” or “allegorized” into promises of God's blessing for the church. The promised land is the new Heaven and the new Earth with the new Jerusalem as it's capital. The promised land was delivered in it's entirety to the Jews in the old testament , but they were vomited out of the land because of their rebellion. We are no longer looking to return to a promised land in some physical nation, we are looking for a promised land whose builder and maker is God. "For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God."- Hebrews 11:10 "For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." - Hebrews 13:14 "Dear friends, I warn you as "temporary residents and foreigners" to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls." - 1 Peter 2:11 There is no such thing as a promised land today on this earth, the only event this earth is waiting for , including Jerusalem is to be burned up to make way for the new. "By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men" - 2 Peter 3:7 Major problems exist with this view, such as the continuing existence of the Jewish people throughout the centuries and especially with the revival of the modern state of Israel. There is nothing supernatural about the Jews surviving today, the mongols, the africans, the arabs and other races have also survived till this day. In fact we still have ethnic Chaldeans, Assyrians , Kurds who are ancient peoples but with representation in our world today. This is just racism to keep idolising one race who reject the Messiah and are anti-Christ , over the rest of humanity. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." - Galatians 3:28 The view that Israel and the church are different is clearly taught in the New Testament. On what premise. The Church means simply , the called out ones. i.e those who have been called out of the world to serve God through Christ Jesus. The gentiles have been grafted into Israel ( Jewish believers ) and they are now ONE and that ONE is the Israel of GOD. To suggest two distinct peoples is to contradict scripture. There is only one body and that body is ISRAEL made up of Jew and Gentile. Colossians 3:11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. "by abolishing in his flesh the law with its commandments and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new man out of the two, thus making peace," - Ephesians 2:15 "It is not as though God's word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel." - Romans 9:6 After the rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18), By the way the rapture is a false doctrine and is never mentioned once in scripture. In the verse you quoted, this is no secret rapture, it a loud and definite event. The whole world will know times up. " For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. " - 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 |

frosbel: What were the predictions that didn't come to pass that he made? Has it ever occurred to you that you may also qualify as an false prophet? |

God will restore Israel as the primary focus of His plan. God's Israel is of the promised seed by faith through Christ Jesus our Lord. Today, God is calling his Israel remnant out of the largely apostate church, they will be purified and made white , ready for the marriage supper of the lamb. Many of God's people are being awakened to the false doctrine of so many called churches today and are discarding false doctrine. Their main goal is holiness and discipling of nations in preparation for the coming of Christ. God's Israel will be delivered from the Babylonian church , and will be restored to right fellowship with him. That time is now and the urgency is becoming even greater. |

OLAADEGBU: I do not claim to be a prophet , lol. Besides I have not made any predictions, your friend Hal has made quite a few. See below. Besides he speaks quite well of the Pope. In a message recorded in 1979 Hal Lindsey made the following predictions … *Lindsey predicts a limited nuclear war before 1984 and an all out world war before 1989 *Lindsey predicts that the world will run out of all raw materials before 1986 *Lindsey predicts that the “Jupiter Effect” will occur in 1982 and at that time dams will burst and nuclear power plants will have major melt downs *Lindsey predicts that the European Union will be the most powerful entity in the world by the mid 1980’s *Lindsey announces that the Antichrist is alive and well in Europe as he is making this speech and will soon make his appearance *Lindsey predicts the murder of all Mormons *Lindsey says that by the end of the 1980’s the Arab nations will have a complete strangle hold on America and dominate the wealth of the U.S. *Lindsey predicts that Russia will invade Jerusalem in the 1980’s and that the U.S. will be powerless to do anything about it. *Lindsey announces to the people of his audience that the rapture will occur in their lifetime. According to Hal Lindsey all of these predictions are based on “Clear Bible prophecies”. You be the judge. |

frosbel: You may say that you are not a false prophet but you can also be accused of being a false teacher which makes no difference. I can give you a list of some of your false teachings which qualifies you as a false teacher if not a false prophet. |

OLAADEGBU: Okay , so now I am a false teacher. Listen brother , I know deeper life very well, they hold unto church doctrine just like the catholic church and no one is allowed to challenge their doctrines because they are all supposedly bible doctrines and therefore infallible , even though a thousand other denominations can also make the same claim. In fact with deeper life, if you disagree with one doctrine you cannot be a church worker. So people are made to conform to the interpretation of the church leaders. This is a dangerous trend. Only God is infallible. My authority is the bible not a man. The words of Jesus as revealed and taught by the Holy Spirit is what counts. If I have made some false teachings , I promise to correct them immediately and in a separate article if you can kindly point this out and use scripture to validate your claims. |

OLAADEGBU: Talking about an attack on the truth of the Bible. You do realise you are spreading false doctrine , right ? Here we have a man called Hal Lindsey , who has presumptuously made numerous predictions of which most never same to pass , yet you still hold on to his words and prophecy "If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the LORD does not take place or come true, that is a message the LORD has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him." - Deuteronomy 18:22 |
