How much to ship a car from the usa.

CONTAINERIZED SHIPMENT:
A 20ft container costs $4355. Rate includes trucking and loading (This is a direct shipment from Baltimore port to Lagos, Nigeria)

One even told me that both handling and service charges would apply to an item that I will purchase myself.

They use volume weight as LxBxH without dividing the answer...rip off.

a whole lot of difference. you can ask the owner of the thread to explain more but there is no handling charges in US. while UK uses kg, the US uses lbs

You are going to spend almost 30k for sending it alone excluding clearing and delivering to Sony in UK. Then sending it back will back will run you another £30 - £40 or more depending on the weight.

You are better off finding someone travelling to UK that can bring it for you or get Sony to pay for freight.
