Robbers Monitored Police With Stolen Walkie-talkies –source by gulfer: 8:51am On Sep 11, 2012
A senior police officer in Lagos, has said armed robbers who invaded the state on Sunday succeeded because they monitored policemen’s movement with stolen walkie-talkies.

The officer, who craved anonymity, told our correspondent that this was further made possible by the sophisticated weapons the bandits wielded and security lapse in the state.

He said, “The hoodlums were between eight and 12. After they killed policemen in a Rapid Response Squad van on Oba Akran Avenue, they stole their guns as well as their walkie talkies which they then used to track police movement.

“So, for example, if policemen were on Allen Avenue, the robbers would avoid that area and take an alternative route. This was how they were able to escape.”

The policeman, who described the bandits as “experts” said the casualty figure was yet unknown. But he confirmed that a corporal, Dejo Obaje, was among the slain policemen.

When asked to name the remaining policemen felled by the robbers’ bullets, he declined further comment on the issue.

The police officer said to avoid a recurrence, the police were making efforts to reprogramme the walkie-talkie remotely.........Read on here:http://www.punchng.com/metro/robbers-monitored-police-with-stolen-walkie-talkies-source/

Those robbers are truly experts in the job.
Armed robbers do this all over the world, infact they monitor the channel used if they have the right frequency so that they can monitor police activites.

I dont know wether to believe this story or laugh at it..

Since when did Police radios start working?!

And why is it that everytime robbers succeed, they blame it on the calibre of weapons the robbers were wielding?!

For bleeps sakes, they are the police?! They should be experts with their weapons?! Instead what we see are cases of accidental discharge victims and cases of stray bullets. A well trained marksman with a catapult can fell a dummy with a GPMG. Its all about precision not the size of the weapon.

The Nigerian Police needs to sit up, ordinary armed robbers, they cannot catch. After wrecking all the havock they wrecked, they were still able to escape. Na wa oh. By the way, I heard that some policemen sell/lease guns to armed robbers, is it true?
Re: Robbers Monitored Police With Stolen Walkie-talkies –source by Josh316(m): 10:37am On Sep 11, 2012
some of these robbers are trained policemen and military boys. thats why they are more deadly and seem to be tactically superior too! its not rocket science to believe that they knew the code languages spoken through the walkie talkies becaise they are part of the same system.

We should try and be reasonable in our comments. These policemen are humans too. Believe me they are trying their best too. May the soul of the policemen and the civilians that died during these robbery attack rest in perfect peace. Amen.

Very possible. But the police can use what is called Vox function to reprogram their radios.
anyone monitoring the channels will only hear a rainy sound not voice. common we can do better than this.
The police should have internet repeaters which can be tracked and monitored by the way the cva system used in
programming the radios already has a voice scrambler. They can simply enter the missing device id and scrammble
the channels. abi police no know which of their radio dey miss?

Yes, you're correct to certain extent.
But recall that top officers have private GSM numbers. Also the '767' and '112'

I can't say I'm suprised. Signals transmitted by CB radios used by the NPF are not encrypted. All you have to do is tune into the correct frequency, and you're in. You'll think the engineers at the Force's Signals dept will at least adapt techniques like Frequency Hopping or Direct Spread Spectrum. But nope.
