Do you have to believe every single story that you read in the papers? You need to ask questions first to ascertain that you are not duped or that the story is real. From what I read, journalist were not given access to the woman who had given birth, rather, she was kept hidden from them. So, how would journalist verify if this woman really gave birth to the animal or not?
