I watched a show on CNN that was talking about the New Geek. You might be surprised.

Old geeks:  Stay in their rooms playing games all day and have bad social skills. Are usually dressed in a nerdy way

New geeks: Are very passionate about their hobbies and spend time, effort and money on the hobby.  Are not neccessarily nerdy but they are independent and not afraid to stand out in a crowd.  They are media sophisticates and read a lot: magazines, TV, blogs, discussion boards etc

Statistics(UK): 78% of them are married. As a group they are worth $11.8 billion. They are within the 18-44 age bracket.

So the question is this, are you a geek?

I am definitely old geek, and I have to say most of the people who replied to this from their room should consider themselves old geek, unless they are posting from some internet cafe and actually paying ten naira per hour to do so. Therefore proving that the old geek never dies it is just accomodating itself to new modes of experession.

Definitely I would refer to myself as a new geek.
I'm well within the age bracket, am married, and passionate about anything wired or wireless. In fact, that's what I do for a living.
Spent the first five to six years of my career as a software engineer (don't like the term coder), and now design tech products and services full-time.

Good for you. In my own case, i am now quite rich n more social but still pinging for the "Lady in Question". Hope my request doesnt timeout. Nice one.
