ACN Governors Are Fake Progressives - Mimiko by touchmehard: 4:25pm On Sep 17, 2012
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State has described as absurd the definition given to progressive politics by  South-West governors who belong to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN).

Pointedly, Mimiko said his administration is more progressive than his other counterparts in the region in the implementation of progressive ideas and in impacting on the lives of the people of the state.

The governor told the owners of the opposition ACN to forget the idea of capturing the state, saying the people of the state are not rats or rabbits that can be captured.

His words: “We shall use the resources of Ondo State to serve the interest of our people. We will resist every attempt by those who want to divert resources of our dear state to service the interest of any godfather anywhere in Nigeria.

“We are making progress in Ondo State and our projects are positively touching the lives of everybody. Those who want to take over power at all costs are merely thinking of annexing the state as part of their territories in the South-West.

“They said they will conquer our state but we shall put an end to their territorial expansionist tendency. Nobody can capture our people in Ondo State because we are not grass cutters or rabbits that could be captured in the bush.

The governor, who was on the campaign tour in Idanre in Idanre Local Government Area, stated that the state remains the most progressive in the South-West, contrary to what the opposition parties want to make the people believe.

He said his administration has been implementing progressive ideas since inception in the past three and a half years.

His words: “In our education sector, we are proud to say that no state in the South-West compares to us. Indeed, while students pay as much as N250,000 and above in tertiary institutions in all the South-West states, most of our students in Ondo State tertiary institutions pay less that N25,000 yet, members of a particular political party say they are progressive and boast that they will capture us.

“In Nigeria today, our workers collect the highest Minimum Wage of N22,000 while most of the workers in the South West are still agitating for the N18,000 Minimum Wage, yet they claim they are the progressives.

“Initially, they came to ask for the blueprint of our projects, we gave them, and now they copy them outright, yet they could not even imitate us well. And they said they want to capture us as if we are rats and grass-cutters. They will fail in their unbridled ambition.”

The governor also lauded the vision of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, for bringing unprecedented development to the defunct Western Region with his innovative projects, urging upcoming politicians to emulate him so that they too could be remembered by generations unborn.

Mimiko said the rapid developments that his administration had put in place had made Ondo State to tower above its peers in the region.

He itemised some of these life-changing projects to include the innovative health care system for which accolades had been received from both the World Bank and World Health Organisation, urban development and human settlement for which he received the United Nations Habitat (UN-HABITAT) Award two weeks ago, in education, in agriculture amongst others.

Besides, the governor pledged to construct a road that would link the ancient town of Idanre with Ofosu town on the Benin-Ore Expressway if re-elected for a second term in office.

He explained that his administration had executed 64 projects covering all sectors in the area within the last three and half years.

He said the Idanre-Ofosu Road, which would be awarded next year, if re-elected, would shorten the journey of motorists traveling to Lagos and would enable farmers convey their produce to  various markets with ease.

The governor added that foreign and local would also be invited to explore the rich potential of Idanre and establish industries that would take hundreds of jobless youths off the labour market.

Meanwhile, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN),  at the weekend, differed sharply over the allegation of importing votes from neighbouring states to influence the outcome of the governorship election slated for October 20.

While the PDP, through the Chairman of the Publicity Committee of the party, Demola Ijabiyi, said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was engaging in illegal transfer of votes from ACN states, the Coordinating Director of Independent Campaign Network for Rotimi Akeredolu, ACN governorship candidate, Mr Wale Akinterinwa, said the party has no such plan.

This development came as the Chief Olusola Oke  Campaign Committee, in a statement by the Media Adviser, Kunle Adebayo, said the  UN Habitat award given to Mimiko is not a product of an evidence-based assessment by the UN but a common recognition based on self serving application and black market representation by the governor’s award spinning merchants and contractors.

His words: “The heaps of debris and human waste litter the densely-inhabited road from Lipakala to NIEPA road, Olanubi street, Ayeyemi street, parts of Igunrin in Governor Mimiko’s Ondo town. Ondo State government wants to use UN name to legitimise its ineptitude and emptiness. While many homes and properties of thousands of people in Ondo kingdom were destroyed; from Akure Garage - Kola Rewire area – Ife Garage - Surulere and Yaba areas under the guise of  endless road construction since three years ago, with attendant environmental hazards, the governor and his palace jesters are rolling out drums, humiliating the people and dancing on their pains.”

On the allegation of importing votes from neighbouring states, Ijabiyi had alleged that the votes were being transferred from Osun, Oyo, Ogun and Edo states where the ACN is the dominant party.

Ijabiyi said this illegal transfer was being done in connivance with a top official of the electoral umpire.

people always speak about igbo lacking unity and i always say this is a lie. Every yoruba man's greatest enemy is another yoruba man.
If you want to herald the achievements of your state you shouldn't tear down the achievements of other people's just to make yours look good. If you're state is something worth praise it will be praise regardless of how you speak of your neighboring states.

You'll never see this level of back biting in the south east. From Tinubu to Obasanjo even back to Awo, their biggest agitators and bad belle were other yoruba people.

Remove Lagos which is already developed by oil money as former Fed capital, Ondo state is the only state recording any meaningful progress now

Oyo, Osun and Ogun are glorified villages
Ekiti is a midget of a state.

Re: ACN Governors Are Fake Progressives - Mimiko by Nobody: 7:14pm On Sep 17, 2012
Lol @ "water fountain governor".

But speaking objectively, I detest the politics of godfatherism being played in the SW, Ondo inclusive. We all know that when it comes down to it, it's all a struggle for control of resources. Tinubu the ACN godfather against Mimiko the Ondo-LP honcho. Whatever the result, I'm not sure the lot of the ordinary man will improve. Classic case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't".

Looking forward to the day we'll evolve beyond petty patronage-based politics. That will be the day.

Re: ACN Governors Are Fake Progressives - Mimiko by Nobody: 7:33pm On Sep 17, 2012
Actually, Mimiko is still a positive element in the SW. And all the Yorubas would be extremely fortunate, if LP wins in Ondo in the impending guber-election.
The ACN needs a political threat, someone to keep them on their feet, and Mimiko is actually right....the progress isnt entirely "original".
I have been extremely disappointed LP is still closeted to Ondo, it would be nice if they take maybe one more state. If we have 2 positive factions, and they are both competing progressively, this would create a robust, and additional even better political platform besides the ACN....Whoever wins, the people wins. And thats what the entire part of Nigeria isnt about.
So, come this coming guber-run, I hope the ACN gets totally disgraced in Ondo. Atleast, it would give the entire ACN govs a clear warning....It isnt about politics or Tinubu. Its about what the people want.... cool

Why did you take money from the ACN to fight the PDP in Ondo, and then renege on the agreement?
