100s Loss Their Homes To Flood In Makurdi by yohannazack(m): 11:57pm On Sep 17, 2012
Not less than 400 homes have been submerged in makurdi the benue state capital. The high rise in water level that have not being xperienced since 1969. The flood was not unconected wit the water being released frm Lagdo Dam in cameroun which destroyed many villages/towns in adamawa and taraba states respectively. The flood that started two weeks ago has rendered so many people homeless, and som displaced persons took refuge in their relations or friends' homes. On tuesday 11/9/2012, the xcutiv governor, Rt. Hon. T. Suswam went round the affected areas to ascertain the level of damage done by the flood, he ordered wit imediate effect that camps shuld be made fo the victims of the flood so as to cushion the effects of the flood as many victims did not hav a place to go to, he also urgerd wel-meanin nigerians to reach out to the victims in their own little ways. Most of the areas affected are; judges quarters, wurukum where the popular BENUE LINKS LTD, FAIR PLUS, IHOTU, NYANYA NIG LTD and others parks are located, also, part of BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY TEACHIN HOSPITAL is affected, others are Newgarage where major block industries are located, wadata where the popula wadata market and the major supplier of fresh fish is located, secondary schools are also not left out. While many people are stranded not knwin where to go to, and do not knw wat to do, fishermen who are predominatly jukuns are happy believin that there is goin to be alot catch, they believe fishes wuld hav enof water and time to giv birth to the young ones and to breed them to maturity befo the season wil comence. At the time of fillin this report, there was no loss of life recorded and there was no sign that the water wil begin to dry off very soon to enable these people to go back to their homes.
