unclebros: For those calling for the Ban, read below

1. The operations of All the manufacturing industries in Lagos will be reduced to night operations, by my calculation and even with optimization of night operations, production will reduce by 60% Am sure we all know what this means.....

2. Port operations will also not be left out, you cant imagine the 'mad' congestion of containers and trucks that will occur at the port. The vessels plying our port will queue from Lagos maybe to malaysia and vessel owners will shun coming to Nigeria cos of this congestion...Am sure we all know what that means....

Result:
1. Grounded operations at port and plant operations
2. Low revenue for both the companies and state
3 streamlining of human resources.....UNEMPLOYMENT
4 Economic disaster
5. And the list continues...

FASH should rethink
While i understand the thinking of the LASG but they can not throw away the baby with the bath water.

I concur. Fashola should concern the revenue he would lose from this.

Ekiti state governor has banned the heavy truck drivers in ekiti nt to b seen on ekiti roads at night, they are to be seen frm 6am to 6pm and the law has taken effect bt frm my own view,he ought to make it 6pm to 6am,they shudnt be seen during d day.

This is the most stupid idea I have ever heard. In a country with non existent rail network, inadequate and horrible road network how do you then hope to move products around? How many days (nights) would a factory in kano or any other northern state need to transport its raw materials and goods from the port in Lagos. And how many days would it need to convey its finished products back to the southern and eastern states, or you people pray that the north should not have any industrys. What about agricultural products, both for export and domestic? How many days do you want the good(most of them perishable goods) to spend on the road. You better be careful what you people pray for, you just might get it, because when you start buying one tomato or onion for N100, you will blame the government. I have not even talked about the effect on the construction industry, it will be a disaster. What of petroleum products, the north including Abuja will be in perpetual fuel scarcity since the pipelines are not functional.

Few reasons why it would be difficult to implement:

A) Goes directly against FGs plans for 24hr port operations. More congestion, less containers flowing out daily, less revenue coming in daily.

B) No designated parking spaces for trucks along our express roads.

C) Roads are in terrible shape. No street lighting and bad security. If trucks are to move @ night, then cars dare not move during the night or face losing their lives.

D) Increased road accidents. Due to the bad roads. Less time for Lastma/emergency crews to rescue or clear up debris as they won't work @ night.

E) Companies would be forced to commence night-time offloading meaning additional costs for keeping staff on overtym. Not to talk of the security implications.

Ideally, a container should NEVER fall off a truck. There are 4 hooks and they re basically fool proof.

2) 90% of truck accidents that are not as a result of reckless driving comes from bad roads.

Trucks have slower response times and lesser manuvaurebility on the road. If there's a ditch in front, you either see it and avoid it in time or the truck goes right in.

Solution: have all trucks do an MOT for roadworthiniess. Bann all trucks beyond 30yrs. Those crazy Fiats especially sud be kicked off and crushed.

Nigeria is still growing and certainly hasn't gotten to that level yet. Watch all advance countries whose heavy duty vehicles only move at night, there is much securities, 24hrs street lights and some constructions are only done at nights here

One of the major problem we have in nigeria today is that we don't value human lives, Probably we value only the ones that die in plane crashes. You need to see the statistics of road accidents and deaths caused by this trailers, If Government can't make them behave on the roads then he can get them off the roads, what economy is it going to affect? 90 percent of any single destination in this country can be covered in 12 hours and moreover traffic would be reduced so they have a free way, so what is bad in giving them 11 hours 7pm to 6am. High way terminals can be built for them in case they can't make it to their destination. And for those that don't know dangote's cement trucks move in a convoy at night not during the day.
Re: Should Heavy Duty Vehicles Be Banned From Roads During The Day by AnyibestDede(m): 8:07am On Sep 21, 2012
The only solution is to get a very good railway network available across the states and cities. And some big companies that uses truck much( Guinness, Dangote and co) can have theirs channelled into there compounds. Then, it can be reduced to the bearest menimum

Banning heavy duty trucks during the day is illogical and makes no sense. First off, all you would have achieved is to reduce day time “truck related” accidents there by increasing night time truck related accidents.
You have also not considered the economical impact a ban would have. Many projects in construction, manufacturing, retail ,shipping, oil & gas etc, would grind to a halt as there are all time factored processes.
This would then have the knock on effect of causing job losses, lost revenue and vastly reduced productivity.
What should be done instead is twofold

1:Improved education and training of drivers regarding road usage and safety.
2: Stricter vehicular licensing laws that incorporate as mandatory that vehicle users insure that they are road worthy before taking anywhere near the roads. Failure of which should be met by hefty fines and confiscation of the vehicles.

emalekuo: The rate of roads accidents on Nigerian roads is very alarming and over 50 percent of such accident is caused by one heavy duty vehicle or the other. Am of the opinion that these heavy duty trucks should have time restriction on our roads say 7pm to 6am cos the roads are bad enough and we can't continue to risk our lovely lives. What your opinion?

Iyaqueen: Yessssss pls,80% trucks in d uk travel at nite always at d last line of d road
well the reason they travel at night is to cos there are fewer vehicles on the roads at that time, there is no law regulating waht time they are meant to drive, its just up to the driver when they want to drive and also watch thier tackles

They should be banned during traffic rush hours (mornings and evenings).. Our Freeways and Arterial roads should be made wider (more lanes) to accommodate traffic. Nigeria has a high number of vehicles
