How about we go with second or third weekend of November and the time of the debate should be between 6 pm to 9 pm Nigerian time?. So please lets fix the time and date so that we can update the template and the organizers can start worrying about other aspects of the debate.

Darn! So much dis-organisation here. You lot will do well to go through the politics section's debate planning thread here:
www.nairaland.com/1068413/nairaland-monthly-political-debate
And the debate proper here:
www.nairaland.com/1081002/1914-amalgamation-historical-mistake-nairaland
You would get a lot of insight on how to organize an online debate on a forum like this to near perfection there, instead of the rag-tag dilly-dallying you are battling here.

We will be having two debates on the 24th and 25th of November, the first topic deals with child soldiers and the other one deals with teenage sex. So we just need more contestants to fill in for any of the topics by indicating their interest here and we will take it on from there. We have some contestants already so just pick any of the topic below and let us know here.

TOPIC 1 - Child Soldiers, a good thing or not?. Should countries prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime? Should there be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity?

RESOLUTION 1 - It is a good thing and they only need proper drafted international guidelines to define the border towards it becoming child abuse and what constitutes crimes against humanity in the context of a child soldier.

RESOLUTION 2 - It is not morally a good thing as wars are made for adults only who can properly reason towards what is good and what is bad in the context of been responsible for their actions that can be termed criminal and crimes against humanity. In addition to that an international minimum age for war participation should be put into law and there should be stiff penalties for any parties involved in a war that goes against thesse laid down rules.

DATE:
TIME: 7 Pm to 10 Pm Nigerian Time

TOPIC 2 - Who is to blame when a child engages in sex ual activities without the right knowledge about harms associated with such;
is it the parents, media or teachers(government)?

RESOLUTION 1 - Parents should be blamed because they own these kids, it is their sole responsibility and the kids stay with them for most part of the day.

RESOLUTION 2 - The media, religious and educational institutions should be blamed because they are better equipped and more efficient in instilling such knowledge to these kids in face of modern source of influence like the internet, pornographic materials and smart phones.

We have done some work on that offline and will be posting it here later or in the main debate thread. On the other hand i can ask cuddie to send you a copy in advance but we planned to send the whole document later to the judges and contestants when it is complete. It will be rounded up by the weekend and only minor changes will affect the document from the feedback we are going to get from you and the others.

These your topics are really something. I would like to see the arguments on that day. However, let me suggest that in a situation where there are more debaters on one side than the other. There should be an elimination round for the side that has a majority.

I propose that it should be done like this:

1. All debaters from both sides should present their opening arguments in not more than 3 posts.

2. Then the judges should decide who the best debaters on the side with the majority are, select them and allow those to take on the debater(s) from the side of the debate that started out with a disadvantage in terms of numbers.

I hope the judges can be firm/fair enough to make this suggestion work.

Thank you.

Hmmm... Very good idea. I hope I am worthy to be a judge.

@ pharoah n cuddle,

Why not pick a final date instead of waiting for debaters to decide. Pick a date and set the ball rolling.
