These were threads we used to have when Nairaland was a forum and not a blog that it is now posting cleavages and obscenities on the front page.

nduchucks:
Why are some of you guys trying to make a mountain out of an anthill

First of all, no one can be forced to participate in a debate, secondly debaters must agree to the rules and the consequences of violating them. Finally, the judges and moderators can maintain sanity during the debate by warning debaters who try to push the envelop too far, hiding posts, or even temporarily locking the debate thread if necessary.

You people have nothing to fear but fear itself. If the difficulties many of you are mentioning are enough to can this topic, then don't whine and complain about your reps in NASS if they refuse to address issues because they are difficult and some may believe that the issues are too ethnically sensitive. Let the debate continue, if you can't stand heat, get out of the kitchen.

Thank you, o jare, Oga NduChucks! If one does not handle conflict civilly, one may be forced to handle them acrimoniously or even violently. I proposed the topic 5 years ago to be discussed in a debate setting as some members of Nairaland had previously done to a couple of other pressing topics. Only to have a couple of my "good friends" grin and even my spouse shocked kick against it. Shockingly some of them na tribalists that were concurrently fighting Igbos on numerous threads o! Anyway. I've said too much. lipsrsealed but just remember no one was talking about IPOB, pigs or Kanu when we proposed the topic. tongue
