Now my observation and comments:

1, If Nigeria had gone to AFCON 1996 and 1996, Rashidi would have scored at least 5 more that would have brought his tally to 42

2, I don't see Rashidi's record being broken in the next 20 years. Martins showed some promise at the beginning but he has also reached his twilight in SE

3, Many Nigerians that call Yakubu names will be surprised that he is Nigeria's 3rd highest goal scorer.

4, I see IK Uche overtaking Martins and Yakubu, and possibly Odegbami, to become Nigeria's 2nd or 3rd highest goal scorer in history.

5, Can we ever produce another Yekini?

6, Why don't we hear or read about this Oyakherua, who is Nigeria's all-time 5th highest goal scorer? Scored that many

7, With what we hear about Muda Lawal, I would have thought he scored more than 12 goals for Nigeria.

Funny, 2 - 5 can change anytime soon for these 3 players can feature for SE. There's more probability in Martins being recalled and extending his tally than Yak.

Yekini is nigeria' best.

Poor list - only Yekini and Odegbami deserve to be on the list as strikers/goal scorers.

The rest are bums! undecided

Because everything in Naija is politics. Politics is a game of numbers. The Oyakherua guy sounds like a minority (few numbers to sing his praise). If very many people (often on tribal sentiment) praise somebody enough, the hype sticks. Same with vilification.

I am just hearing for the first time that Yakubu is YORUBA!

Brother leave that guy, obviously he does need the attention of a psychiatrist.

Looks like the shape of Nigerian football team can be seen from this stat. Baring any exceptional talents, Yorubas seem to be more effective finishers, SE/SS mostly midfielders. Defense not so certain, but mostly SS/SW/SE. Wingers and committed utility players: North. Goalies: SW.
If you need a player in the national team to run into bricks for you for the whole 90 minutes, go to Kano state or anywhere up North. I think its a very decent balance and any coach who uses this formula will most likely get results. Also, our best midfielders seem to be Southerners that grow up in the North. Mikel Obi, Victor Moses are recent examples. I think football discipline is more up North than down Souths
I watched the U17 today, and it was very similar and they looked sharp.
P.S. I do not intend tribal war here, just stating my own observations.

So Yobo is the most capped player with just 84 matches. See wetin lack of friendly, failure to qualify for major touranment. Indiscpline and age cheat cause them.

I shouldn't be responding to this post but I think it would be proper to correct that thing u call a brain so that u don't go and mess urself up in public.
Yakubu(I think he said yekini) is not yoruba , he's from edo state.
I don't know if he's (Yekini) Yoruba but he's from irra in kwara state, not Edo.

i personally like YAKUBU because he has been consistent in scoring goals for nigeria, just because he lost open chance doesn't mean he doesn't know how to score again.
This is YAK profile

Yekini is the greatest Nigerian striker from the stats. Not only is he the highest goal scorer, he has the best goal ratio.
Obafemi also has a good goal ratio.

This was really funny! grin grin

The question to ask, in my opinion, is when will Nigeria produce another Okocha, again? No, I don't mean make him in a factory or plant him like a flower because there are Okochas all over Nigeria but the stupidit.y of a LOT of Nigerians and government and their programmes has made such Okochas to be frustrated into doing any other job he can find to survive! Or, BH, kidnapping, drug or something nasty must have sealed the fate of most of them. Okocha tops the list in one of the best footballers that would ever kick that round leather thing! How about Kanu? When will Nigeria raise another team like the 94, 96 team, because that was the most complete team in recent history. Almost all of them were good individually and excellent when they get it going. When was the last time Nigeria had players who could pass the ball in different, shifting triangles so much so that the opponent could not get the ball??

How about another Yekini? Daring, bold, strong, fast and every strike of the ball towards the keeper was always a threat! If only Nigerian youths and the leadership of this country would do the right things for the country, Nigeria is virtually unstoppable in many things!

Looks like Rasheed Yekini still leads the list. . .

Hope Odemwingie takes over from yekini as soon as possible.

I don't think age is on Odemwingie's side. Very likely Yekini's record is going to remain for a really long time.

Re: Super Eagles' All-time Highest Goal Scorers by femi4: 4:53am On Oct 15, 2012
Ik uche will break that record. After Yekini, he's the most consistent striker. Yakubu was just lucky cos he's been in the team since 2002. Ik Uche will dust his record by the end of 2013
He missed 2010 world cup due to injury. CAN 2013 will be his first major competition for SE.
He's the only one that can come close to Yekini
Re: Super Eagles' All-time Highest Goal Scorers by Jimbadly: 5:00am On Oct 15, 2012
who says Yekini's record cannot be broken in the next 5 years. Martin or uche needs to score a minimum of 20 goals to beat that towering record set by Yekini. If either of these 2 can score up to 5 goals apiece in the upcoming AFCON tournament then they're very much on their way to beating that record. I must admit it'll be quite a difficult record to beat. These players need to be more consistent in front of goal in the upcomin tournaments like the AFCON, the world cup qualifiers and some friendly matches inbetween.
Re: Super Eagles' All-time Highest Goal Scorers by naptu2: 5:10am On Oct 15, 2012
One of the most painful things in football for me is the fact that Yekini (highest goal scorer in Senegal '92 and Tunisia '94) didn't go to SA '96. He would have become the highest goal scorer in nations cup history.
