Some oil marketers in the South-east have commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the re-opening of the NNPC depot at Osisioma near Aba, Abia State.

The commendation was made by some marketers in Aba, yesterday. The marketers also praised the president for ensuring adequate supply of petrol to the depot.

They said they appre-ciated the efforts of the president and others who ensured that the depot came back on stream.

Mr. Simple Nwankpa, Chairman of Reactivation Committee of the depot, said that they were also grateful to Governor Theodore Orji and the Petroleum Minister, Diezani Allison-Madueke, for sustaining products supply to the depot.

“We’ve sampled opinions from all the states in the South-east and found that people are happy with the president for not only re-opening the depot, but also sustaining supply to the depot.

“During electioneering, the president promised the people of the South-east that he would ensure the re-opening of the depot and this he has done.

“He went a step further to ensure that products supply is sustained unlike in 2008 when the then rehabilitated depot received supplies for a short period,” he said.

Nwakpa also commended the Group Managing Director of NNPC, Chief Andrew Yakubu and the Managing Director of PPMC, Mr. Haruna Momoh, for keeping to their words to ensure regular supply of products to the depot.

Chief Gilbert Nwoke, the IPMAN chairman in Aba Depot, said that they were grateful to all who made it possible to have regular supply of products since the depot was re-opened.

“Before now, we used to travel to all parts of the country in search of petroleum products, but others now come here to source for the same products; we remain eternally grateful to those who made this happen,” he said. (NAN)

Back in the days growing up in Aba and it's environs one can't but help noticing the bee hive of activities towards the osisioma, economic activities were at it's height,so much job opportunities created and much revenue generated, but like the harmattan the leaves suddenly dried up,activities were grounded leaving the very lively depot a shadow of itself, more important is that at that time there were only 2 functional depots in S/S and S/E,Osisioma and Warri.

Then the frustration set in,economic activities grounded to halt In the area, marketers had to endure long queues at warri and Portharcourt depots, and also had to deal with the cost and dangers associated with transportation, politicians used it as a campaign strategy, people promised all and all but failed to deliver.I can remember vividly that Mr President made this promise on his campaign tour of Aba,and now much to the relief of the Marketers, consumers, host community and other stakeholders in this sector, the depot has started operation at full scale again, which is a massive economic boost for the oil sector and the Nigeian economy in general.

Change we can see,not just promise upon promises without actualisation, for the umpteenth time this administration has shown it's transformation agenda is on track.
