This is one of the issues afflicting many automobile, once they land in Nigeria. Now you've got a decent SUV, it needs a scan but you're not willing to pay for it. What else will you ignore, that will snowball into something bigger?

My advice? Don't skimp on what your car needs, take it to a certified Nissan technician, or a decent garage that knows one end of a spanner from the other. They'll cost more than the regular roadside wreckers, but at least your car will be in good hands.

You can also consider buying a scanner. It's a handy tool and you can even make it a business and start scanning cars for others over there in PH

Re: Service Engine Soon by ASTdiagnostics: 3:04pm On Oct 23, 2012
hi Nissanpart, with all due respect i don't think advising users to purchase a scanner will solve there problems, if you are a diagnostician you will understand that reading codes does not solve the issues but proper and high level interpretation of the codes and knowing how to check step by step to problems found is the correct way to auto mobile issues.
Re: Service Engine Soon by nissparts(m): 5:33pm On Oct 23, 2012
Nowhere did I say that it would solve their problem in all cases.
FYI, in some cases it will.
Your comment is like saying if a driver buys a tire gauge, it means his tire will never go down or he will never need a vulcanizer.
Every driver needs to be equipped with a scanner.
You and I both know that and in this case, the driver is seeking for a place to do the scan. Why would he need to seek a place if he can do it himself as a first step and then point the repairer, whoever it is, in the right direction?
Re: Service Engine Soon by Nobody: 6:01pm On Oct 23, 2012
Really!AST, You mean for every occasion you have the MIL a "diagnostician" need be called in? Sometimes your MIL can come on for failure to properly close your fuel filler cap/lid. Frightened by the MIL you scurry to the diagnostician, only for him to diagnose with the scanner that your fuel tank lid had not been properly covered. The point is if you had had a scanner you would have solved that problem. Of course some specialist can be called in at some point or the other, but in situations that requires DIY, inviting the diagnostician could be likened to killing a fly with a sledge hammer.

P0161 is your Oxygen Sensor, bank 2, sensor 2. So that would make your engine a V. Bank 2 refers to the left cylinder head (so driver's side) and sensor 2 will refer to the post-CAT O2 sensor (after the catalyst). Get that replaced, as from the code posted, the heater has failed.

P0325 I would ignore this for now. That's a knock sensor code, and is not just Nissan specific. Running low octane gasoline (non-premium) will trigger the knock control. In layman's terms, the knock sensor detects "knock", or the more appropriate term "detonation." Detonation is mostly caused by running low octane fuel. If detonation is not detected, the piston crowns will get damaged (in severe cases, they'll melt). When detonation is detected by the knock sensors, they send signals to the ECU, which will retard the ignition timing. This happens usually before detonation is audible to the human ear.

It's possible for the detonation to be outside range of correction, if very low octane gasoline is used for prolonged periods, with a very hot engine, and under load. As much as possible, use premium gasoline. Also, have your engine mounts checked - excess vibration will also trigger knock control. The knock sensors are extremely sensitive - they're tiny piezo microphones bolted to the engine block.

Re: Service Engine Soon by nissparts(m): 8:34am On Nov 19, 2012
Have the catalyst at the driver's side checked. It may be blocked. If it is, expect the passenger side to follow soon as well.
Fix is to either replace or do the catalyst bypass mod in my other thread.
Most likely, there's nothing wrong with the sensor. It is giving you the code because it has detected an unnecessarily high voltage from the workings of your catalyst, so, it's doing its job.
