Good Governance Tour Plateau State Town hall meeting Live thread... by Countryman93: 2:13pm On Oct 24, 2012
The team led by the Hon.Minister Labaran maku visited the 43.2 kilometre Manchok-Vom road in Plateau State which has been completed and opened to commuters. Minister of State for Works, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda said during an inspection tour that the road now provides alternative route for those travelling to Kaduna as well as linked Plateau State with Kaduna State.

He added that the road which is linked to the Eastern Byepass in Kaduna through Kachia will provide alternative route for tankers bridging petroleum products from Kaduna Refinery to some states in the Northcentral Geo-political Zone.

The Minister of Information Mr. Labaran Maku expressed delight at the quality of work and urged road users to drive with care in order to guard against accident.

The road which was taken over by the Federal Government in January 2012 was executed at a cost of N3.9 billion.

When the team arrived the university of jos permanent site, the Information Minister Mr. Labaran Maku expressed disappointment at the level of work done by the contractors so far,as they are currently running six months behind schedule.

The projects which include the construction of the Faculty of Social,Faculty of Post Graduate Studies, and finance related courses, international conference centre and hostels being funded by the Central Bank through the TETFund.

He said the essence of patronising local contractors as directed by President Goodluck Jonathan was to develop local capacity in the execution of some projects,to enable them grow with their foreign contemporaries but warned contractors that their growth won't be at the expense of the university.

He said the situation was a practical example of how some Nigerians undermine the development of the country.

He is also said the TETFund is an interventional measure of the FG to tackle inadequate facilities in our tertiary institutions and that it shouldn't be this experience when it intervenes.

Hon.Maku promised to meet with all stakeholders in the process to ensure speedy execution of the projects and personally supervise the process, adding that erring contractors would have their contracts revoked.

In his own words the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Professor Hayward Mafuyai said the project funded by the CBN is the single biggest intervention project in the university.

The Vice Chancellor also disclosed  that TETFund is currently executing three projects in the university. They are the Centre for Arts, Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Medicine.

The team also visited the Agricultural Services, Training and Marketing Centre, Vom, Plateau State, where over 45,000 peasant farmers have been trained in modern farming methods.

The essence of the training is to develop small-scale farmers into large-scale commercial farmers through application of the appropriate modern technology to farming.

According to the DG of the centre  Mr. Hertz, the  centre had set up a demonstration farm to impart practical knowledge to farmers in all kinds of agricultural activities ranging from different types of irrigation, cultivation, storage and marketing.

According to him other services provided by the centre include agro mechanical services, green house technology, fertilizers, superior seedlings and pesticides, as well as cultivation technology.

He said 150 varieties of trees were planted on the demonstration farm to teach the farmers the techniques of managing the trees.

The National Good Governance Tour delegation inspected the drip irrigation and normal irrigation sites, as well as other farming implements like the maize mower, maize sheller, cultivator, ridgers, disc plough, fertilizer sprayer, and planter.

In his remarks, Information Minister Mr. Labaran Maku said the centre had revolutionalised farming practice particularly among the peasant farmers.

He said by integrating local agriculture into modern farming, the farmers trained at the centre would significantly improve agricultural  production in the state.

In another massive development in the  Power sector reforms, the NGGT visited the 120 megawatt power sub-station in Makeri, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State. One of the many Power stations and plants being built all over the country, which has been completed.

It is expected as soon as the sub-station is energised there would be stability of electricity in the Jos South District in addition to 50 communities that would directly benefit from the projects.

The entire district previously powered through 33 kv line, will now be  powered through  a 132 KV line with 6 feeders.

In a related development the Panshin Sub-station has been completed and will  supply electricity to the southern part of Plateau State.

In his remarks the Minister for information Labaran Maku said the Federal Government is committed to overhauling the entire power transmission infrastructure to enhance power supply which is key to economic recovery and citizens comfort.

Mr. Maku also disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Information recently conducted investigation across the country and discovered from the citizens that there is greater stability in power supply, adding that once the gas fired plants being built by the FG and the private sector are connected to gas supply,in addition to the Super grid under construction, the country would witness a record stability in power supply.

With limited resources, Jonah Jang has shown what true leadership and good governance is all about without much noise making.

Drawing from the obvious achievements as mentioned above, one can happily and graciously commend the present Governor of the State Mr. Jang, though in the light of dis-order in some part of the State, the Governor have been able to manage these challenges to better the lot of the citizens. A show of good governance indeed.

Sentiment aside, to hell with partisanship, JONA Jang has performed beyond what I would have personally expected from him considering the insecurity in the plateau.. With tlittle resources, unstable security the man rose above board. TRULY THERE ARE SOME UNSONG HEROES IN NIGERIA.

Could these projects be ruse or they are government propaganda? But civil society groups and media organisations are part of that tour. Well, I have always known that government is complex and without information you may never know certain things. From the evidences being provided, our government is not doing poorly but we want a forceful leadership.
I have known Jang as a performer from his days as an administrator in adamawa and benue states but the bad image he has as a leader who is biased against the Hausa Fulani is one area he needs to work on.

The above projects were executed by president Goodluck Jonathan. Let's not confuse them with that of Jang.

They said GEJ is not working but only in Plateau alone, he has built a new permanent site for jos university teaching hospital with a modern equipped dialysis centre.
He has refurbished a GOWON dam in plateau.
He has built a power sub station in Makeri,
He has constructed a new road through a blasted rock to link kaduna with jos.

Two of the projects close to my heart: Power sub-stations at Makeri and Panshin. It would make a real difference in the lives of those people in the two regions.

It is gratifying that more Transmission and Distribution lines are been completed and commissioned across some parts of the country..when would the sub-station in Asaba be finished and commissioned?

Thumps up...
Re: Good Governance Tour Plateau State Town hall meeting Live thread... by Bukkyade: 1:07am On Oct 25, 2012
Jonathan is fixing up power stations here and there. Apart fom reviving comatose NIPP power stations, he is building more power sub stations. We are about to witness a whole new era of power generation. The all time highest generation of 4,477 megawatts achieved in August appears to be greatly surpassed in due course. With the succesful privatisation of the DISCOS, things can only get better

Wait to believe that we have this kind of scenery in Nigeria, see roads men, that road that goes between those rocks looks like Nevada, look at the quality of those roads,it's really making sense, anyway why won't it make sense, the money used to construct 50km of that road won't construct up to 30km in Bayelsa, but anyway nice one to the FG and Jang.

Dude what is it with you people and tribalism in this country, can't you just commend the government for a job well done and not start bringing up issues of where it is costlier to construct roads, what is the problem with you people, this is the marginalization that Jang was justtalking about, the states of the north-east ar being unduly marginalized, especially plateau state.

Too much marginalization in the system, they need to revise the revenue sharing formula.

What is that supposed to mean,am I not saying what everybody knows is for a fact, you spend times two of what you spend in jos in bayelsa on a kilometer of road, but that aside what marginalization are you talking about, can't you see all the projects beign undertaken by the FG in plateau state alone, not to talk about the ones that have been seen previously in both Niger and Kwara,or have you not been following this tour, what s your problem, which one is marginalization again,my guy it begins to manifest itself to me that you might actually be suffering from a chronic case of inferiority complex,if you are following the mouth of Gov Jang what do you expect him to say, that he's okay with what the FG gives,no way his a politician even though I must commend him on the much he has accomplished considering the fact that he does not get as much as much as some seriously under performing governors, but please no more talk of marginalization please.

My friend,as you can see from the ictures up above,Governor Jang and the FG have gotten a pass mark in their developmental strides in plateau state,it is true that plateau does not get what some other states do,but in this age what everybody is talking about is how to increase your internally generated revenue and not how you keep on waiting for the FG handouts, this is the 21st century my friend, please no more talk of marginalization, instead give kudos to whom it is deserving.

That is the more reason why those of us who are aware of the facilities the FG is putting in place for the citizenry should endeavour to enlighten others of these utilities because they are for us,and believe me when I say that most of those who criticize the Govt do so out of ignorance, and that is one of the major reasons why this Maku's good governance tour is a very welcome development,at least by the time they go round all the geopolitical zones nobody Will be able to honestly say that in one and a half years the FG has not done something,be it any sector of the economy you care to mention.
