JFK Daughter endorses Obama. "A President Like My Father". http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/27/opinion/27kennedy.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin

Powerful speech tonight, but will this take him all the way. With youth on his side, I believe he can overcome.

What do you think?

Can you believe the Margin by which Presidential Candidate Barack Obama took South Carolina? One newspaper called it a "Rout" of Hillary.I hope that the people realizes the "transformation" that America has undergone to the point an Afro-American must now be considered a serious Presidential Candidate and he has done it with flair, class, and style!!.Barack Obama is an incredibly smart man, he's by far the brightest bulb in the race.

I wished the vote was closer to be honest.

I don't want him to be classed as the 'black candidate' as Bill especially as tried to ochestrate recently.

This resounding success amongst blacks. . .well lets hope it dont hurt on Super Tuesday. undecided

Imagine what it must feel like running against two Clintons, and beating them. The one thing Hillary should consider is before Bill began his campaign of lies and mis-information the polls showed that Hillary had about 50% of the black vote. Many of the white and black voters did not like Bill’s tactics and that is probably why Obama's win was so impressive.

well he also won 25% of white votes leaving Clinton and Edward with 75% to share.

Meaning he did not do badly with the whites as well

He won 80% of the black vote, blacks made up 53% of the voters. Thats what I call block voting. Blacks carried him through. This victory means nothing. Wait for super tuesday.

obama will not win. because he is black. whites were ready to vote for him. but bill clinton has made it a racial affair. he blasted obama in south carolina and made blacks to "completely" vote obama and that plays into bill clinton's game plan. he can now let the whites see that obama is actually a black candidate. and the latinos will also line up behind hilary.
the result . . . .republican white house in november.

but obama has done one thing. . . he has showed the black race and indeed the underprivileged category of humanity, that no matter what they say, one thing is clear . . . even if we dont . . .

. . . . yes we can cool

That is pathetic judging from the fact that he was loved by the blacks. that shows the level of white hypocrisy.

For them, the blacks are good as long as they are followers. too bad

Not all of them though

Kennedy Plans to Back Obama Over Clinton

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Senator Edward M. Kennedy intends to endorse the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama during a rally on Monday in Washington, associates to both men confirmed, a decision that squarely pits one American political dynasty against another. The expected endorsement, coming after Mr. Obama’s commanding victory over Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in the South Carolina Democratic primary on Saturday, may give Mr. Obama further momentum in his campaign for the nomination. Of all the endorsements in the Democratic Party, Mr. Kennedy’s is viewed as among the most influential.

Senator Barack Obama talked to reporters on a flight from Macon, Ga., to Birmingham, Ala., on Sunday.

The Massachusetts senator had vowed to stay out of the presidential nominating fight, but as the contest expanded into a state-by-state fight and given the tone of the race in the last week associates said he was moved to announce his support for Mr. Obama.Mrs. Clinton said Sunday that she had not expected to get the endorsement, yet aides conceded that they hoped Mr. Kennedy would remain neutral. The endorsement will be announced at a rally at American University on Monday, hours before the State of the Union Address at the Capitol. One day after defeating Mrs. Clinton in South Carolina by 28 points, Mr. Obama flew to Georgia to speak at a church service before traveling on to Alabama for a rally. Both states are among those holding primaries in the next stop in the Democratic presidential nominating fight on Feb. 5.Mr. Kennedy, the latest in a string of senators to get behind Mr. Obama, is said by associates to be drawn to the Illinois senator because of his ability to motivate a new generation of Democrats. His niece, Caroline Kennedy, made a similar argument in an Op-Ed piece in The New York Times on Sunday.“For somebody who, I think, has been such an important part of our national imagination and who generally shies away from involvement in day-to-day politics to step out like that is something that I’m very grateful for,” Mr. Obama told reporters on Sunday, referring to Ms. Kennedy.During Mr. Obama’s three years in the Senate, he has worked to build allies and gain friendships with many of his colleagues. While Mr. Kennedy and Mr. Obama have not been particularly close, Mr. Obama quickly gained the admiration of the Kennedy family.Besides providing Mr. Obama with an important boost for his campaign, his strong victory in South Carolina also raised questions about the Clinton camp’s strategy of aggressive attacks on him. But in an interview on Sunday on the CBS News program “Face the Nation,” Mrs. Clinton said she would not back off from taking shots at her chief rival’s positions, saying, “It’s important we draw these contrasts.”“The idea that somehow someone’s record, someone’s words are off-limits, I’ve never seen that in American politics,” Senator Clinton added. With each of the top Democrats having notched two primary victories, it appears increasingly likely that the party’s presidential nominating fight could extend well beyond the multistate primary elections on Feb. 5. John Edwards, the former North Carolina senator, received 18 percent of the vote in South Carolina. Despite the disappointing finish by Mr. Edwards, who was born in South Carolina, the former senator insisted that he will remain in the race. Mr. Edwards’s delegates could eventually play a key role in the fight between Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton. The next big contest comes on Tuesday in Florida. In the Republican race, Senator John McCain received the endorsement of the state’s popular Republican governor, Charlie Crist. On Sunday, Mr. McCain again assailed the Iraq policies of a top rival, Mitt Romney, castigating the former Massachusetts governor for having suggested earlier some sort of unannounced timetable for withdrawal.“Governor Romney obviously said there have to be ‘timetables,” although they had to be secret,” McCain said on “Meet the Press” on NBC. “If we had done that, as the Democrats and some Republicans wanted to do, we would have lost that surge and al-Qaeda would be celebrating a victory over the United States of America.”Mr. Romney has demanded an apology from Mr. McCain, saying the Arizona senator had been dishonest in his description. The Florida primary could be critical for the Republican campaign of Rudolph W. Giuliani, the former New York mayor. Mr. Giuliani on Sunday predicted victory in Florida, seeing the large number of early absentee votes cast so far as a helpful sign and saying his tax-cutting promises were resonating with voters. As of Friday night, nearly 400,000 party Republicans had cast early votes, compared with the 200,000 who cast votes at this point in 2006. Florida is one of 37 states to permit early voting, and Mr. Giuliani has made an effort to get his supporters to vote early over the past month.Democratic candidates are now taking their campaigns to states like California and New York for contests that hold vast numbers of delegates. Tuesday’s primary in Florida will play an unusual role in this election because the Democratic National Committee has said it would not seat Florida’s delegates because the state is holding the primary earlier than party rules apply.Democratic candidates have not actively campaigned in Florida because of the party’s decision, but that does not mean a race has not been conducted by Florida supporters of Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Obama. As of Friday night, nearly 350,000 Democrats had cast early votes exceeding the turnout in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada and party officials predicted that roughly 400,000 will have voted by election day.As Mr. Obama flew here on Sunday, he smiled when asked by reporters about Mr. Kennedy’s plans, saying: “I’ve had ongoing conversations with Ted since I’ve got into this race.” He learned of Mr. Kennedy’s decision through a telephone call on Thursday, aides said, three days before the South Carolina primary.

Clinton beat Obama only among elderly voters, according to exit polls.

Among voters 65 and older, Clinton beat Obama 40 to 32 percent. But Obama handily defeated Clinton in every other bracket, and overall garnered 58 percent of the vote among 18 to 64-year-olds while 23 percent of those voters picked Clinton.

And half of those polled said both candidates shared blame for the rancor between the two camps. Of those who said one of the contenders was more to blame than the other, 21 percent blamed Clinton, and 6 percent said Obama.

"It's fairly obvious it's not going to be over February 5," Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs said.

Obama always says to win an election you must not be afraid of loosing it, so the idea that he should have gotten lesser block votes from blacks would have made him a better candidate is simply not true.

Obama was never a black candidate, because he is as white as he is black and also has an Asian foster father. He can not play racial politics.

For those who think this is about black votes, you are simply not following the trend
IOWA - Obama won both popular vote and technically (delegate count)
New Hamshire - Obama lost popular vote but drew technically (delegate count)
Nevada - Obama lost popular vote but won technically
South Carolina - Obama won both popular vote and technically

If after this trend whoever thinks he is still not a serious candidate should rid himself of delusion. The Clinton camp does not obviously think that way otherwise they will not deploy the service of an ex-President to attack him, Washington does not think that way otherwise they will not grant him a secret service detail, John Kerry and Ted Kenedy do not think that way otherwise they will not endorse him.
Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by Truthman(m): 10:26am On Jan 28, 2008
@Mckren,
All US senators have secret service agents attached to them. By the way a big Congrats to Barack Obama for his big win in SC. I quite sure that it will be HRC's turn 2moro in Florida by a big margin too.

As for Ted Kennedy and John Kerry's endorsement, let see how it will play out. Obama will probably win six states on Super Tuesday (Arizona, Colorado,Georgia Illinois are sure bets). I believe Kennedy's endorsement came out too late thanks to the persuading powers of the Clintons.

Looking to the future, the Democratic party will never be the same again and would be divided going forward to the general elections no matter who wins the nomination. If I were the Clintons I would probably be thinking that with friends like this (Ted Kennedy and John Kerry) one wouldn't need an enemy. Imagine, Bill Clinton left his hospital bed to after surgery to campaign for Kerry in 2004 only for Kerry to say he didn't do enough.
Re: Obama Wins South Carolina - What Does This Tell Us About Obama's Strenght by McKren(m): 11:28am On Jan 28, 2008
This is not about politics of scratch my back I scratch yours, its about the future and whether Hilary is good enough to ride that future.

Meanwhile does Democratic Party allocate any delegates in Florida? and how is Florida anymore significant compared to Michigan??

And how about Arizona where Obama has the support of Gov Napolitano.
