The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN has introduced sniffer dogs and anti-terrorism squads in order to beef up safety and security at the international airports in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.

Yakubu Dati, the General Manager, Corporate Communications, in a statement on Thursday, said the development was in line with the transformation agenda of the Federal Government, adding that the measure would later be extended to other airports in the country.

“A comprehensive audit of security and surveillance has been conducted on aircraft, terminals and security personnel, to align them to standards in the industry," the statement read.

“The airport security personnel have been trained in crowd control, body search and other specialised areas, while undercover surveillance is conducted by plain clothes crack team.”

Dati revealed that all the country's airports had security equipment, including hand-held metal detectors, closed circuit television cameras, x-ray screening machines and 3D scanning machines, adding that these were in addition to a 24-hour security patrol on the airside by the aviation security personnel as well as the presence of Police Bomb Disposal Units in the terminals.

“The leadership team of the authority, therefore, wishes to reassure all airport users, especially passengers, that Nigerian airports are safe and secure to travel through and that with the completion of the first phase of the airport remodelling project, service delivery at our airports can only get better,” the statement read.

...lol...reminds me of an id1ot that messed up my luggage and had the ordacity to ask me " wat do u have for us"...i was like....I have hello for u....I cant remember a time I had to open my luggage travelling to Naija....never, its always when Im leaving naija....
