Breastfeeding is one of the best and healthiest things a mom can do for a baby and the mom's body will usually regulate break milk production fairly consistently.

During the beginning of the baby's life breast milk is typically all that is needed for the baby to sustain and increase its weight. As the baby grows, the body should naturally increase breast milk production.

However, there are things that moms can do to increase lactation if the need necessitates, here you will find 5 tips for moms to increase breast milk production.

TIPS ON HOW TO INCREASE BREAST MILK SUPPLY

Eat Healthy

Do not neglect the intake of fluids in your diet. Plenty of water, juices and milk are important for your personal growth and to increase
breast milk supply.

Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and take enough rest. Keep your body strong because that will have more energy to produce breast
milk for your little one. Do not worry about losing that extra weight for some time.

Concentrate on taking enough calories. One of the ways to increase breast milk supply is to ensure that you eat right and eat enough.

Drink herbal tea or tea containing fenugreek to increase breast milk. It is known to be one of the best known breast milk enhancer.

Drink Lots of Water

While nursing, it is so important to take care of yourself and treat yourself well. Nursing takes a lot out of the Mom's body so drinking lots of water really helps to replenish loss fluid and keep mom hydrated so that breast milk production is optimum. The amount of water you consume is associated with the amount of breast milk you produce. So make sure that you always drink plenty of water.

Along with drinking lots of water, it is important for mom to eat healthy and get lots of rest. Living a healthy lifestyle is very important while nursing and will help to increase lactation.

Increase the Frequency of Feedings

Right after you baby is born, try to breastfeed him or her every time the baby is hungry even if there is not much milk produced. The simulation from your baby plays an important role to keep your breast milk production high. So always try to stimulate the breast with the baby during the first few days in order to increase milk production.

Attempting to feed the baby at regular intervals everyday helps to increase breast milk production, newborns can nurse as often as every 2 hours and attempting to nurse the baby frequently will really help to increase lactation.

When Baby Stops Nursing, Don't Pull Baby from Breast

Many times when mom nurses her baby, the baby will fall asleep when he or she feels satisfied. The baby's mouth will typically hold on to the nipple even though the baby is sleeping, it is a good idea to let the baby's mouth stay on the nipple. This simple act of the baby's mouth on the nipple will encourage the body to increase lactation as the milk producing hormones will react to this simple gesture.

Allow the baby to suckle breast for longer periods of time.

Sometimes allowing baby to suck more and more often works wonder and let the milk supply increase naturally. Breast milk is essential for baby’s growth. Never stop him in between the feeding. Let the baby finish sucking milk.

Massage the Breasts

Massaging the breasts helps to produce more breast milk, massaging the breasts makes the body think that the baby is nursing more often than he or she really are which will increase lactation. Moms also find that massaging the breasts in the shower is a relaxing and peaceful place to try and increase breast milk production.

Breast Pumps

After breast feeding your infant, pump your breast milk every one and a half hours and store the milk in the freezer. You can feed the stored milk to your baby when he or she is hungry.

I never had much luck with breast pumps. However there are many moms who are excellent at using breast pumps and pumping in between feedings is a way to increase breast milk production. It will take your body a little bit of time to become accustomed to the breast pump and the additional breast milk that is needed to accommodate the frequency of pumping that you add to the nursing schedule, but the woman's body is an amazing thing and will adjust fairly quickly.
