Road Map To Revolutionize Housing Sector Coming Soon- Jonathan by Idokojimmy: 9:35am On Nov 13, 2012
PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has said that the National Housing Policy and the National Urban Development Policy recently approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) would soon be translated into a road map to revolutionise housing development in the country.

Speaking at the Presidential Stakeholders’ Retreat on Housing and Urban Development at the banquet hall of State House on Monday, the president who described the policies as the umbrella framework for a coordinated response to meeting the challenges in the sector, assured that  reinvigorating and revitalising housing and urban development was a core priority of his administration.

He said the policies were an important step, bearing in mind that prior to the approval, the housing and urban development sector operated without enabling policy instruments that would positively harness the potentialities of the sector.

"These policies are to be translated into action through a road map for the housing and urban development sector. The road map will address the challenges of achieving a housing revolution in our nation, within the shortest possible time. It will also provide the pathway for transforming our cities into livable and functional human settlements,” he stated.

The president reminded the stakeholders that as laudable as the objectives were, they could only be achieved if a clear direction and focus was set for the transformation of the sector, with the cooperation of all stakeholders and partners.

He further noted that the retreat provided an opportunity for the stakeholders to reaffirm their commitment to the revitalisation of the sector, adding  that, “through the pooling of resources and talents, we can meaningfully address the impediments to the growth of the sector.”
