Our Real Need:

What the world really needs is not more computers or more motor cars or more machines or new political and economic systems. What the world really needs is love.
There is tendency in our time to draw a sharp line between the “developed” and “under-develop” peoples of the earth. The “developed ” people are the people of Western Europe and Northern America. They are the world-changerd, with a high level of technological advancement and superior technical knowledge and skills. Tge “underdeveloped” peoples are the peoples of Asia, and Latin America. These peoples are backward and lacking in inventiveness. They are passive receivers of western technology and civilization, hence they refereed to the third world.

Behind this division lies a false conception of progress, indeed of all reality an arrogant conception of western civilization as the ideal model of civilization. Why is it, serious minded people all over tge world are asking, that despite the high growth in technology and scientific knowlede and industralization, as well as improved standard of living in the so-called “developed” or rich countris, cases of suicide, violence, deprssion an d meaninglessness abound? The biblical saying: What does it profit a man if he gains the world and losses his own soul?” Has become a modern maxim.

The economy of the “Third World” countries is utterly at the mercy of the “First world” countries. In the health sector, the people of the “ Third world” countries spend their life earnings on importing drugs made of chemicals from trees growing in their backyard! African doctors and nurses are trained in the western style of healing and they detest tgeir own traditional health system that sustained them in childhood. The resut is tgat the nation continues to grow poorer and depenndet on imported goods. THE AFRICAN UNIVERSE

The African universe is a world of relationships, of interactions between the living and the dead, between the natural and the supernatural. A community is not just a place where beings dwell. The African community comprises the plants, animal, human beings, the spirits and the ancestors. The trees are more than mere trees, the sky is more than we see. There is more to the plants and animals than we see with our eyes. Everything in universe is a language of Life, an expresssion of life. Therefore they are sacred. They are holy.
If you want to know how beautiful the mountains and the forests are, listern to their language. If you would hear the language ofLife, listern to the creatures. To be alive is to hear the echoes of Lifein the forests, the mountains, the animals, and the universe and in every human being.
For us Africans, every thing, every person is a duality. Our world is not an eithe/or world. Our world is a both/and world. No good without bad, no life without bad, no life without death, no happiness without sorrow, no strength without weakness, no pride without shame, no pleasure without pain. Life is not opposed to death, rather, life is life and death. The rain that waters our farm and wets the hot ground also brought the flood that drowned our goats and leak through our house-roofs. The eyes with which we see and admire our loved ones also rain tears for them when they die. Today we wail, tomorrow we laugh. Today we fight, tomorrow we play together. Life is a rhythmic movement interaction between 'opposites',the rhythm of night and day, life and death, joy and sorrow, white and black, failure and success. It is by getting into this rhytm, and fitting oneself into it, that one leans to live. He who woulld live a full, forcefu life had better learn to fit him/herself into the rhythm of life. The riddles of life cannot be solved by dualism, by separating life from death, joy from sorrow , sickness from health. Rhythm is means by which we understand and interpret life.

It often happens that at the beginning of a new century, when people suddenly discover that indeed the long awaited new century has come, that the world has not ended as expected, that life continues ( externally ) as usual that no race has been wiped out, they then become discourage and confused. Many will stop going to church and may even doubt the existence of God. But what really is the meaning of the end of the world? Is God going to destroy the hills, the mountains, the plants and the animals? What sins have have they committed? Is it not we human beings who have sinned? We really need to understand more deeply the meaning of the end of the world. Don't be surprised that in the first decade of the new century, the Churches may no longer be filled with young men and women, many so-called prophetd may vanish into thin air. That is really the time to know who is a believer. When the Son of man returns, will he find any faith on earth?

The following are some of the many uses of bitter leaf.
1. Stomach-ache:
Chew the tender stem of the plant like a chewing stick and swallow the bitterness. This is a well know remedy for stomachaches. In some cases the ache stops within a few minutes. An alternative is to pound the fresh leaves in a mortar and press out the juice. Add a pinch of salt to three tablespoons of the undiluted juice and drink. This brings immediate relief.

2. Skin Infection:

3. Loss of Memory
