Tinubu’s firm, others get N90b construction contract in Ogun Premium Times - 6 mins ago
National , News
The state government said it followed due process in the award.
The Ogun State Government has awarded road construction contracts worth N90 billion to fourconstruction companies including Hitech Construction Company Ltd , believed to be owned by former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu .
Hitech has successfully won multi-billion naira construction contractsin virtually all the Action Congress of Nigeria controlled states, a partythat has Mr. Tinubu as one of its leaders.
The Ogun contracts were signed on Monday for the construction of 8 roads across the three senatorialdistricts of the state.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Ogun, Olalekan Adegbite, who signed on behalf of the State Government at the event witnessed by reporters in the state, said the roads were part of the 14 that the state government had earmarked for construction at the sum of N130 billion.
The roads, according to Mr. Adegbite, are the 25 kilometre Ilisan-Ago Iwoye, 9 kilometre Ejirin-Oluwalogbon Junction, and the Sagamu 7 kilometre Benin Express junction-Oba Erinwole junction in Ogun East senatorial district.
Others are the 4.8 kilometre Ilo-Awela Road and 60 kilometre Ilara-Ijoun-Egua-Oja Odan Road in Ogun West senatorial district.
In the Ogun Central senatorial district, Mr. Adegbite said the 6 kilometre MKO Abiola way, 9 kilometre Ojere-Adatan Roundabout, and the 8.7 kilometreBrewery junction-OGTV are also to be constructed.
The commissioner said the government had earlier placed advertisements in the media inviting interested contractors to bid. He said due process was strictly followed before the four to handle the projects were selected, revealing that the period of completion varied between 18 and24 months.
Also speaking at the contract signing ceremony, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Wemimo Ogunde, said signing the contract in the presence of journalists was a demonstration of government’s seriousness and commitment to the execution of its cardinal programmes. He said carrying the people along to elicit feedback remained a crucial aspect of responsive governance.
“Letting the people know what weare doing is important¸ we want tobe given feedback. We want our people to know what government is doing and we want their support,” Mr. Ogunde remarked.
Responding on behalf of other contractors, Paolo Prono from Borini Prono & Co. Ltd promised that they will do their best to comply with terms of the contractssigned, build quality roads and deliver within record time.
Other successful contractors that signed at the ceremony include theChina Civil Engineering Construction Company, PW Nigeria Limited and Mr. Tinubu’s Hitech.

Hitech alleged to be owned by Tinubu. Is it so difficult to find out the ownership of the coy from CAC?!
Besides what's the issue with the coy winning contract in all ACN controlled states, is JB/RCC/Arab Con/etc not gettin Fed&state contracts all over the country (even ones not bidded 4)?
Issue should be: are they doing quality jobs?

In as much as I am not in support of cronyism but I am yet to see any construction giant in Nigeria that does not have an individual with political clout and interest behind them. Our source of concern should be if the so called company is capable or not and if it is then there is no need for apprehension. The Chagoury's are behind Hi Tech and there are friends to politicians from both PDP and ACN!

Sentiment aside.....HiTech roads are better than those from some of these giant constructions coys..like BP, D&S and JB...

If they are doing the job...I don't see the reason for any sensationalism...

Who told you JB ..D&S and BP are not promoted by highly placed politicians?

What i find annoying is when the ACN accuses the PDP of being corrupt when they're worse than the people they accuse. Hypocrisy is the name of the game.

Why are you fond of doing this?

Where did you see corruption on this post? Did you see due process not been followed in the award of the contract? You are always quick to jump to judgement when ever ACN comes up.

If it is true that Hitech is owned by Tinubu, in my book, this is yet another case of crass cronyism.
Let's call it exactly what it is, without fear or favour.

I beg to disagree @take dat.
The problem with cronyism is that it often attends important events in the company of a twin brother known to be anything but transparent.
What is more, that dreaded twin will go to any length to ensure any tendering/bidding process put in place is comprised.

I partly agree with you but in the Nigerian context there is little one can do about that. In the recent revocation of Bi Courtney consession, the FG itself did not follow a bidding process nor were design submitted by interested firms but they simply opted for JB and RCC because they are mostly comfortable with them and not that other construction giants cannot do better than RCC, that in itself is a form of cronyism. I'll want to reckon that Ogun state feels more comfortable with the selected firms in as much as they are capable. Cronyism should be discouraged though!

Mention the jobs that have been bid for so far and Tinubu coming on top on all or else drop it....you always accuse without any shred of prove to back up your accusation..

Guys, let us raise our game. We can have our political differences but all of us, so called well-educated folks, let our Nation down if all we contribute is talk and automatic reaction that shows we don't read, think or challenge ourselves mentally. The Companies we should all have a problem with are new start-up Companies, often 'fronts' created specifically to gain lucrative contract, with no capacity, history of specialisation or competence to do the job they have been given - not HITECH that has existed since 1988 with no proof Tinubu owns the Company. In fact, The person who mentioned the Chaghoury's is more on track - and these cats are everywhere in Africa to be beyond any singular politician.

Any one interested should go to the Companies website to see their work. This is the sort of common sense logic some of us deliver here only for the OP and his ilk to begin foaming at the mouth shouting ACN hypocrite and saying we worship Tinubu when it is obvious there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking grown men to use their head and do some basic research before speaking, instead of hating blindly and enduringly . Personally, I am pragmatic enough about the reality of Nigeria to the extent I do not have issues with any established Company , regardless of its ownership, as long as said company has a proven and pertinent history of delivering results. By all account, HITECH appears a company capable of winning construction bids on its own merit and we should stop the intellectual laziness insinuating otherwise.

I don't know why some Nigerians have a propensity for hating blindly and enduringly, to the extent common sense and the need to ask obvious and logical questions flies out of the window. Yet same folks cannot apply similar 'appetite' they have for unthinking bellicosity towards reading and conquering ignorance. I may not like the Chagoury's but anyone who appreciates what they are will understand it is an insult to suggest Tinubu owns what they built over decades.

U tell me where HITECH has been found wanting in any project being awarded to them? They arent perfect but they are noted to be doing great quality jobs. In contrast, for instance SETRACO (MR fix it and co company). These fools have been on east west road for years doing nothing and yet collecting billions every year.

Look, humans (politicians) are behind these companies, be it PDP, ACN or whatever. i will have no problem with any company that deliver any quality job on schedule. Thats the difference.

On this basis, i think HITECH should be given more jobs cool

@Gbawe,
You started off well by asking that we elevate the discussion.
But I am surprised you are prepared to go out on limb for a company that, by your own admission, has some connection with the Chaghourys.

I think you've set the bar dangerously low by dismissing questions others have about a bidding process - with a wave of unperturbed pragmatism - simply because a particular company has a proven history.

@All, it is at times like this that I feel Nigeria's slow adoption of Open Government (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open_government) needs to be called into question.

Look, I am no fan of the Chagoury's. You and others here are intelligent. As such, you have to understand some things are like a multiple choice question with only one correct answer. Get one aspect of the answer wrong and everything else is wrong. If Tinubu does not own HITECH, then what does that make of the slant of the article that focuses entirely on the Notion that HITECH is gaining contracts in ACN States because it is owned by Tinubu? Conveniently left out is the fact that this is a company that has existed since 1988 and has gone on to build a reputation as one of the better construction companies in Nigeria and well able to win contracts relating to the built environment on its own merit. Yet everything, for this article writer, has to be framed in a lie about Tinubu with many swallowing unthinkingly.

Guy, let us call a spade a spade. I would think you are one of those who know my opinion well enough here to understand I am pragmatic. That pragmatism comes from experience gained operating in Africa and moving beyond uninformed idealism. In fact I am currently in West Africa and everything is always the same with a Lebanese possessing the 'right calibration' being able to grow into a Chagoury while our PHD holders remain rigid folks given to over-intellectualising everything without providing solutions. They end up driving buses or leading nations astray while those without first degrees build conglomerates because they realise what matter and what does not - such as the patent mischief of this article.

For me, I simply want proof Hitech does not have the competence to win the bid it has won and we can talk. I know West Africa well enough to understand that there is corruption everywhere. What we cannot play with - and I have been consistent reiterating that - is the concept that it is competent and proven specialist solutions providers who must gain important infrastructural contracts. How does HITECH fall short in this respect for you or anyone else to the extent you can embrace the 'favouritism' submission of those who deliberately lied about the ownership of the company?

West Africa is far from perfect. In fact, the region is a joke in many aspect with Nigeria eliciting greater laughter than other Nations. Nonetheless, a solid drive towards progress, for pragmatic folks, begin with ensuring capable hands are drafted in. When that happens, it is regretful some can remain consumed with mischief to the extent issues start and end with lying about politicians owning what they do not. Here, there is no talk at all of the progressive thinking and commitment of Ogun State that has seen it shun the traditional and self-destructive model of deploying incompetent contractors or deploying start-up companies the Government itself registered two days ago through cronies. Instead, Ogun has gone with, comparatively, 'A-listers' employed in the Nigerian construction industry. It is tragic that is not the focus of this thread and some are only interested in obsessing over the lie Tinubu owns HITECH.

I have absolutely no problems admitting that first post was off-the-cuff and completely without merit. To be fair, I am also prepared to concede that even with the big "if", it did convey an assumed position. This I very much regret.

Nonetheless, here is the contradiction I see; using your very own yardstick the Chaghoury group should not be beyond reproach, because of its known antecedents in relation to corruption. Just as we have nothing here to suggest the bidding process in Ogun state was comprised, we equally have no evidence to suggest it wasn't.

Mainly because I know you are likely to agree that greater transparency is required in our current procurement processes, I am, once again, asking you to take a closer look at the benefits of an open government framework in the area of reporting.
Re: Tinubu’s Firm, Others Get N90b Construction Contract In Ogun by hercules07: 3:09pm On Nov 27, 2012
This argument is redundant, what we need to find out is if they have the capacity, if the contracts were not inflated and then wait for the completion of the construction to see what has been done, companies that can handle stuff like these will always have political affiliations.
