If a Nigerian man/woman was to date an African American woman/man, which culture would be more likely to accept such a union, assuming it would lead to marriage?
Re: African Americans - More Accepted By Igbo Or Yoruba Families by PAGAN9JA(m): 8:50am On Dec 07, 2012
None. we are full-blooded tribals. our cultures wont accept you.
Re: African Americans - More Accepted By Igbo Or Yoruba Families by ifyalways(f): 9:12am On Dec 07, 2012
@OP, every tribe would accept or/and reject such relationship. It boils down to individual families.

Families decide nowadays not the whole village or tribe.

^i agree to that. If you speak about the tribe, any tribe in this world will reject such a thing because it is against tribal norms, and such relationships can entail the extinction of a tribe.

these days it is individuals who decide but i am telling you that our cultures reject it.

That makes sense that it would come down to an individual level. I guess my question then is more about percentages perhaps...of the two which do you think would have a larger percentage of families that would be accepting?

Really The extinction of a whole tribe... undecided I think I'm referring more to Nigerians that are already here in the U.S. to see if this is more acceptable and plus I don't know how many AAs are actually living in Nigeria. I find it difficult to believe with how largely populated Nigeria is that any particular tribe would become extinct because those that have moved to US or abroad have dated other cultures...

Nigeria has 244 tribes.

Broaden your horizons beyond igbo and yoruba alone.

you wont be so surprized when you read about the tribes of europe and SOuth America.

i repeat, it is not acceptable in any of our cultures. it all comes down to the individual level.

The answer to your question is, on average.. you'd find the Igbo culture more accepting of such union than the Yoruba. This is to be expected though, due to the fact of that the Igbo an Black-Americans share many things in common, like genes for one; these shared attributes often times draw the two together when in proximity to each other. Many Igbo/Black-American unions exist in this nation.

It doesn't matter who marry who more...it is about the families and pray that the family isn't ignorant like some of the lots here. My inlaws are a blessing!!

There are nice Nigerian families that would embrace you so as the person that chose you.

You guys have a good point. Igbo ppl seem more open to western blacks than other Nigerian tribes. IMO.

Damn I hate that word ''tribes''.

Can you DUMB IDIOTS please stop using that term to describe whole nationalities and ethnicities with tens of millions of souls?

Referring to groups like Igbos (pop. 45 million) and Yorubas (pop. 45 million) as 'tribes' is beyond stup.id and ignorant. Sorry - tired of being polite to supposedly educated people who willfully degrade and belittle themselves. If you can't bring your self to type 'ethnic groups' then kindly don't bother!!!
