This is good news.

Infact as soon as I read your post, I called up a few of my friends in the media who had not heard about this upcoming event and we all agreed that this epoch-making event of trains leaving Lagos and terminating in Kano after making stops along the way MUST receive all the fanfare it deserves.

We need to tell all nay sayers on this forum and our enemies in the west that GEJ's government is finally putting Nigeria back on track. (pun intended)

Please tell us which of the stations these trains will be taking off from so that me and my friends in the media can give the event the elaborate coverage it deserves.

We would also like to know if tickets will be on sale at the terminal because we tried to make reservations on the NRC website with no success. We looked for a number to call on the site but found none.

Please ignore all these "nay sayers" who don't believe that anything good can come out of this government and use your good office to help us with these pieces information urgently.

If you can supply this pieces of information, me and my friends will upload pictures and videos of the grand event on this thread tomorrow...if the world doesn't end grin
Thanks dear. Unfortunately I dont have detailed information. But certainly from the report, the NRC said the train will take-off from Ebute-Meta train station in Lagos by 9am tomorrow.

shocked shocked shocked shocked

Is this a 1940 steam engine train or what Anyone who celebrates this mediocrity needs a psychiatric evaluation! in an era where trains cut the time of road travel by 50%, Our Nigerian trains are doubling the transit time.... HELL NO!!!!! grin
1940 or 1660, the most important thing now is that there should be an alternative to road travel in Nigeria. Asking a government to provide a speed train now may led us to another decade of depending solely on road transport. Actually, those train I have seen for the past few months are still okay, some are up to 80kph or more, with this, we can start from somewhere.

You have to give it to Jonah o. All these past government stole this country dry...check federal government budget since the 80s, they have always budgetted for train rehabilitation and the money will always be spent without results...
Jonah signed the FOI bill into law that is why most of us get to see government expenditures and what goes into what project and so forth..in the past, nobody tells us anything.
Jonah has revamped our airports, we all now look away like nothing has changed, old local airport in lagos was a pathetic sight up until early this year, can you remember what it looks like.
The IOCs are already used to milking this country dry and are fighting the passage of the PIB Bill, that will open up to sector to more local players in the oil and gas sector as well as compel players to live up to their tax expectations.
Jonah is trying...

If this story turns out to be true, then am afraid GEJ has succeeded in taking Nigeria back to the stone ages.

Laudable as the project seems, it is saddening that the so called alternative to road or air travel is a 24 hour train journey, in NIGERIA, in 2013! Gosh, I shudder!

To put this situation in proper perspective, the last time I took a train was a manchester bound train from London's Euston station, and the journey time was exactly 2hrs 10 mins, and this was in 2008!

I suspect the pro-GEJ team hang around here waiting for any sort of news to feed on, PITY!

How many of you congratulating GEJ wld seriously consider taking these 24-hour fun rides? Smh!

Oga, let's all be truthful not even a Buhari,Fashola, etc can get us a fast moving train transport system in 2 yrs. The rot there is horrifying.

Since the Leaders before GEJ did absolutely nothing when in office, let's be of good cheer for the little job he's doing with our rail system. Good Job Mr President

Despite all the corruption goin on around Jonathan, he seems to be working. At least NEPA has stepped up their game and the NRC is under-going a revival. If he can take decisive steps towards curbing corruption (eg Empowering EFCC to sucessfully carry out few high profile prosecutions)....who knows??
Re: Lagos-Kano Mass Transit & Fuel-Haulage Trains Begins Friday by CROWE: 3:46pm On Jan 15, 2013
Corruption, corruption, corruption. Corruption is not Nigeria's problem, all governments are corrupt at some level especially the more diverse ones like Nigeria. It is the private sector that pushes an economy, usually people in the private sector do the bribing to help their company grow which in turn helps the public because the industry develops and jobs are created by these elite bosses, its not fair but the country still grows, Nigeria's problem is that the federal government collects all the money and then shares it among the states, we are subsidizing our states, mine is yours and yours is mine(socialism). We all know how that model worked for the soviet union, it collapsed and do you know that the american democrats did not choose Franklin D. Roosevelt? They chose Newton D. Baker, insider deals and secret arrangements are how Roosevelt became president.

Nigeria's problem is that it the system of government is made for an ant colony, it requires that everybody do their job diligently and perfectly, it is an everybody wins or everybody loses system(communism), America being very diverse like us adopted albeit for different reasons a more loose system of government and more gifted people are allowed to shine, subsequently they make everyone around them better, we are not all like Germans were everything is efficiently, masterfully and diligently done especially now that we have developed a culture for cheapness and easy things. Free the states from depending on one another, Lagos will boom and it will spread to the surrounding states, Kogi will be able to grow if we ever get Ajaokuta steel mill working. Nigeria's problem is that the has put a leash on the country and tied us all together, we are only as strong as out weakest link and the federal government guarantees that there are many weak links.

The "corruption" I'm refering to is the one in which a public official inflates monies used for (eg) infrastructural development and embezzles it or allocating those large amounts to run their bloated cabinets. The monies generated by the Fg should go into infrastructural development and provision of loans to fuel a middle class. We also have our parts to pay b'cos if the money is made available to aspiring biznessmen, what's d guarantee that they won't deliberately default??
Re: Lagos-Kano Mass Transit & Fuel-Haulage Trains Begins Friday by CROWE: 4:21pm On Jan 15, 2013
O.o wtf!!?, I just told you corruption is not the problem and your response to that is that type of corruption, it is a different type of corruption? since when where there many types of corruption? You talk about infrastructure being constructed in Nigeria and I told you how the generalization of Nigeria destroys that, we'd need every last state to grow together as one, states are different, they have different potentials etc, the models to development differs by state and they cannot all grow at the same rate or be at the same level, Nigeria is too diverse, just like Europe, they tried to join all their markets and the result is that most of the economies in the EU are collapsing. Listen to me now "red corruption, blue corruption, upside down corruption, that is not Nigeria's problem, when New York was being built there was a lot of money getting stolen as well, it is because the entire country is bound to government hand outs that get stolen that we have a problem here and not because the money gets stolen.

NRI PRIEST: Can we at least see some pictures of the train nor the tracks ?

Nothing new. It is the same old existing track. Even Aregbesola has been been using the track for train transportation since he assumed office about two years ago. So, what is new? Are we now using electric train or what? Are train stations now upgraded and usable?

OP, you will only end up deceiving further the already deceived fellows who have never been out of their villages.
