This alone can bring down a government in a more civilized and educated country. Nigerians can only speak English but knew nothing about rights and seeking justice for the sake of the country. I pity Nigerians.

It is true the President does not need to know each item in the budget line by line .That would not be a realistic expectation. But there are certain issues that signal to the public what you and your government are about and what your priorities are.

A serious president for a country as poor as Nigeria should question the principle that allows certain kinds of expenditure not the amount but the principle of such expenditures.

Should government buy food for the president or anyone at all in Aso Rock??
Obama pays for his food. David Cameron pays for his food
Should government be maintaining a fleet of Presidential aircraft
The issue of spending on VP accommodation is a symptom of a wider problem in government that is not just at the Presidential level;of officials living large in a way that COMPLETELY IGNORES NIGERIA'S TRUE FINANCIAL SITUATION.

Should a government that is borrowing so much not be in AUSTERITY MODE?

Should the Presidency not project Austerity? Richer countries all over the world are in austerity mode and we are building Palaces?

Once that Palace is built it will have an ANNUAL MAINTENANCE COST for ever contributing nothing and costing plenty. Should we do this with borrowed money?

This cannot change without clear examples or personal sacrifice coming from the top.

The VP accommodation expense is one item the President MUST KNOW ABOUT if not for any reason certainly its PR impact. He has DOZENS OF ADVISERS OF VARYING SENIORITY AND SPECIALNESS at great cost to Nigeria Surely one of them must have told him that this is a PR disaster. The kind of scandals and crisis that perpetually overtake this government suggest that the President has surrounded himself with men who cannot speak the truth to him. THis issue was always going to be controversial and to say he does not know is like Orisejatfor saying he did not know CAN made a donation of 10000 naira to Boko Haram because it is a small amount.

Early this year he told us he was going to cut foreign travel to "THE BAREST MINIMUM" we have seen what that means. It will be impossible to transmit probity and sacrifice throughout government when the Presidency shows itself to be carnally wedded to consumption and enjoyment.
The President is entitled to celebrate parties and cut cakes with his family but broadcasting those pictures suggests that he does not really appreciate the level of desperation in the land. Nigeria is a very poor country by any poverty measure and certainly one of the POOREST in the WORLD.
Perhaps if they cut back all that waste and put it in the health system they would not need to fly to Germany so often

This is a wasteful country. Our leaders are unrepentantly extravagant and they need to be cursed. If the government chooses to build a 2 bedroom mini flat for Nigerians at a cost of three million naira, that means three thousand families will be housed. What a country. One day, we will get ourselves out of this mess.

Sincere 9gerian:
If you feel Mr President should know every item contained in a 5trillion budget, then goodluck to you.
Are you dumb, or just plain re.tarded?! Tell me, what's his job as President or you think he's just there to consume N1.3billion meals per year without putting in any work? Go tell your principals you failed. You don't deserve to get paid if this is the best of the silly defense(s) you intend to keep putting up.

on one of the threads on this platform the question is for readers to nominate the most corrupt Nigerian leader some posters might want to say he is not the person referred here but verily I say to all he surely is the one behind the request for the increase he is a dubious fellow
