Personally,i think this whole charade is meant to make people throw cautions to d wind about the end of the world. There have been several failed predictions about d end of the world. This just makes some people actually believe that the world won't end for real leading them to continue living their careless livestyles so when the world actually comes to an end, they' d be taken by surprise and they'll end up in regrets.

So if some folks say they know the date, my simple advice to them is that they should repent.
