It actually depends on the individual's faith. If you pray once and you get convinced that you've gotten the answer --fine, celebrate and move on but if you feel you've not been answered, then continue praying. By the way, how do you receive answers to prayer? Through your spirit. But this is where so many do get it wrong about prayers, they want to see the physical manifestations before they believe. And faith does not operate in this way.

Good afternoon Law,
I understand the frustration one might go through when he or she prays and the prayers seem to be unanswered. The simple truth is that God hears every prayer and he answers everyone. His response is basically, Yes or No. When God gives a 'Yes' answer then the next thing is timing. He can decide to answer swiftly or delay the response. Note that this delay is basically because we are humans. We count days, weeks, months, Years etc but with God everything is in the present.

If God says 'yes' to your prayers the only thing one needs to do is continue praying. Our prayers are really not meant to remind God of what we have asked but rather it is meant to show our reliance on him. And through prayers, we get the grace to endure and wait on him.

God can also give a No response and really there is no way of telling if God has said a 'yes' or a 'No' unless we have the spirit of discernment. Some people are of the opinion that the manner in which they pray or the emotions they attach to their prayer is what moves God to answer them. I am of the opinion that this is not correct. God is not moved by our tears. God is a loving father, God wants what is best for us but sadly some of the things we want are really not in line with what God wants for us.

Remember that Christ was very emotional at the garden of Gethsemane and even requested that the father let the chalice of sorrow to pass him by but since he knows that he prayer is not in line what the will of the father for him, he quickly submitted himself to the divine will of the father. In the same way, there are some prayers that are not in line with what God wants for us, it would be futile to seek something that God has seen to be bad for us.

In conclusion, it is great to pray, it is great to ask for what we need but let us seek the will of God and when our prayers for a particular need seem to stretch let us have it in mind that God has heard us, for he is not deaf, and continue to ask if we believe that it is in line with his will for us. Prayers show our dependence on God.

Thank you!
