Your "Yoruba-spelling" is pathetic! angry angry angry

"Isee kin'pani, Ayo lo npa'niyan"

Literally: Poverty does not kill, it is exuberance that kills"!

True that!.....though not in all cases.

CARELESSNESS and GREED as in this case, even kills more! wink wink

*which "House Landlord rented that place out, for that kind of business? Is there no law that stipulates the kind of "Business" that you can do in certain areas?

*Which kind of Businessman stores "explosives" in a Residential area? Did he made it known (by way of Warning Signs and Posted information on the Warehouse walls), that his warehouse contains dangerous materials?

*What manner of Customs & Excise (I know their Comptroller uses forged Certificates) allows businessmen to import explosives without proper "checks" on storage and disposal? I even understand that the importation of fireworks in BANNED!

*Which manner of Security Agents (Police, SSS, "KAI, LASTMA, Yellow Fever", e.t.c grin ) allowed these toxic products to be transported from the Ports to that warehouse?
I guess each "arm of law enforcement" simply collects its own "Egunje" as the dangerous Cargo transits from Apapa Port to Central Lagos!
If it is to fatally shoot the innocent or protesting students, these outfits will be so trigger-happy
!

Shame on our Security Agents, Shame on their Commanders.

Finally, while celebrating with knockouts and firecrackers is not "The Problem", it is "lack of education, enlightenment and information" on how to "safely store, use and dispose-off the materials without endangering yourself and others"...THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON.

Of-course,those found culpable in these fiasco need to be dealt with to serve as a warning and deterrent to others!

But if l know our Government ....SIDON LOOK! wink wink

Fashola will visit the place before dawn. Commissioner of Police will follow suit. NEMA will do its own drama and so on and so forth. GEJ at the federal level will set up committee to look into it. The culprit will be arrested and will secure bail and indefinite adjournment. They will al wait till it happens again, and the whole drama continues! Is that not so?

jammyng: That's what you get when illiterates handle stuffs like that and throw them without 'sensible' sense. I saw a boy on my street throwing 'banger' under a car which definitely has petrol in it.

And you didn't give the boy a dirty slap?

this thing is more serious than anyone could have imagined. I just left the scene couple of minutes ago and the fire was still burning. about 15 buildings has already been affected cos the bad way buildings are arranged on Lagos island, some structures had to be pulled down for the fire fighters to gain access to the main building where the explosion began.

I was able to talk to two policemen who witnessed the incident. One said he's very sure that the sound he heard is not just that of a firecracker or fireworks but that of a 'semi bomb'

A young boy was trying to do a commando, he jumped from a 5 floor building, he ended up dying.

Some residents said 2 40fts containers were off loaded between sunday and yesterday fully loaded with fire crackers.

people were warned, to no avail

This was the thread (just 5 days ago)

https://www.nairaland.com/1138157/police-ban-knock-out-season/1

naptu2: Examples of the reason for the ban.

1) In the late '80s or early '90s there was commotion in Central Lagos when a fireworks depot caught fire.

Similarly, in the 1980s, NTA News regularly showed images of Chinese fireworks factories that had caught fire.

2) The wife of the musician, Fatai Rolling Dollar, died from injuries sustained when she was hit by fireworks that had been thrown into their house.

3) There's a popular boys secondary school in Lagos which is beside a popular girls secondary school. On the last day of school before christmas, students of the boys school usually attack the girls school with fireworks. However, one year, the tradition ended earlier than usual when fireworks were mistakenly thrown underneath a peugeot 504 car, which set the car on fire.

4) Two years ago there was a documentary on STV that showed a woman who was campaigning that fireworks should be banned. Her son lost two fingers when, in response to a dare, he held a stick of banger as it exploded. They also showed other children who had lost fingers from the practice.

5) In the early 2000s, armed robbers attacked a place on Lagos mainland using toy guns and banger sticks.

6) Somewhere on Lagos Mainland I saw youths attack a house with banger. I have never seen such a coordinated fireworks attack in my life! One resident of the building was able to escape via a window. He came back with policemen, but by then the youths had vanished.

And there are many more such examples. In recent days, residents of Maiduguri and other cities of the north have reported on nairaland that the ban against fireworks is being strictly enforced because of the fear of boko haram.
