The 2012 Lagos Countdown is a world-class celebration of the end of one year and the beginning of another in Lagos State.

The Lagos Countdown will take place on some portions of the newly reclaimed Eko Atlantic City and Bar Beach. The event is being conceived to create an end of year cross-over tradition that would engage citizens of the state (and visitors) throughout the end of year holiday season.

The event will take special significance at the Eko Atlantic City particularly because all of the land that was washed away by the ocean over 50 years ago is now being reclaimed. Many perceive this to be a “white elephant” project, but what better way to usher in a New Year than to do so on land that was deemed lost and that is now bursting with enormous potential for a new city!

We anticipate that over 50,000 people will converge on the Atlantic City to welcome the New Year in true Lagos style. The Lagos Coutndown will feature several activities and events that would come to a climax with a thrilling and exciting display of choreographed fireworks, pyrotechnics and music.

Within the next few years, we anticipate that this event will be the biggest New Years eve celebration in all of Africa.

When one challenges the massive waste of money on parties and canivals they say it's for tourism so wonder how many people around the world or even nigeria will park their bags and say "gee..i'm heading to the most traffic congested city in africa for some senseless carnival".

Nigerians can take advantage of the turn out at the event and unite against bad government. The event can trigger the much anticipated revolution and unprecedented uprising against the present wasteful and insensitive government. We can call it "Occupy New Year".

All these money being wasted should be used in infrastructure projects that will give long term benefits to the life of Lagosians. African leaders are clueless.

Seriously, are you been silly or what, do you think Fashola spends government funds on this, its all private sector driven. In lagos, private sector begs to sponsor parties like this, because it promotes their company, products/services and makes their brands superior in the psychic of the citizens. Please also remember that all this is also inline to promote and market Eko Atlantic City to the world (A MultiBillion Dollar City)..

When investors sees all this well organized events in Lagos, Lagos been one of the safest place to do business in Nigeria, Lagos been the gate way of Nigeria and West Africa, the highest successful self employed Nigerians... this are some things investors wat to know before they come to states ..

Education is not just about attending and graduating from some community colleges, its mostly about personal development. I believe you would have done better if you had taken a few minute to research about the most congested traffics in the world. Los Angeles, California must be the second most terrible traffics in the world (if not the first) and people not only within the US but the world over, troops into LA daily... so just shut your gob if you don't know what you're talking about. Plus FYI, this is the festive period, traffic congestion is well expected in any bubbling city.

In Mathew 15:2-3..'Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread. BUT JESUS ANSWERED AND SAID UNTO THEM,
WHY DO YE ALSO TRANSGRESS THE COMMANDMENT OF GOD BY YOUR TRADITION?

Any program or tradition that tends to give honour to gods of the land rather than the Creator, Almighty God is idolatrous. Read Exodus 20:3-5--
'Thou shall have no other gods before me'
.........

Any event or tradition that promotes indecent, seductive dressing is from marine kingdom and has the mission to enslave souls, and send them to hell eventually. Beware of idolatry...It is unrighteousness, and all unrighteousness is sin.

God bless you as you obey.

What shall it profit a man or a woman if he or she shall gain the whole world and lose his soul in hell.
Mathew 5:28, 'But I say unto you.
That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

Both the person lusting, and the seducer hath committed adultery already, and adulterer or adulteress cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
REPENT.

The greatest gift is found in Romans 6:23.
'FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH; BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD'
.
Will you amend your ways today, and cut off from your sinful life? Or will you continue in sin while celebrating christmas? The decision is yours.
What matters is the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord....what shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul in hell.....there's no more time left, REPENT NOW!!!

Celebrating New year without Christ in you is hell.

A pure display of ignorance.

On the contrary, it will generate income for the state.Have you passed Bar Beach in the recent time, LASG has allocated different spots for companies to trade with each spot being paid for, sponsorship will also bring income whereas LASG will only supply the ground and security.

Do you watch CNN and see cities like Macedonia,Dubai, etc countries like Kenya advertising? Do you know the cost of one shorts on our local stations let alone CNN? Have you asked yourself why all these are happening?

The work of the govt is to create enabling environment and attract investors by working on their psyche through what they see. the govt is to invest in the environment and security, going by economic models, the govt should not ordinarily dabble into the running of businesses but should allow private bodies to handle that instead govt should regulate through laws and order.
With stuffs like this and security being guaranteed, LASG is telling people that LAGOS is safe for running of businesses.
Thumbs up to gov Fash. the most intelligent gov in Nigeria.

my facts are suffering from overightness. Is that even a word? Anyway....!! I don't need to go to hotels to know that all this frevolities do not add a penny to the economy. Rather it is a waste. If you feel your facts are so strong, lay them here with figures from the ministry of culture and tourism or the national oreintation agency and i'll conceed.

Curb your ignorance, this is a private event, the only state responsibility here is to sanction the event and make some tax money to develop our state.

Do you know the economic impact of such an event with 50,000 people on the local economy?

Do you not know that many people are going to make money from transporting people to this event, make money from selling food and drinks, make money from party supplies, advertisers making money, hotels making money, printers making money from posters, and the state making tax money to build roads, schools and so on...

Events like this insects money into the local economy, it creates jobs. In many places , cities fight and lobby to host such events because of the economic potentials and job creation. This is how you boost your local economy and create jobs.

You people need to reason beyond your village said...
