A military coup against the civilian Nigerian federal government in January 1966 and a counter coup in July 1966 by different military factions, perceived to be ethnic coups, resulted in em mass massacre in Northern Nigeria in which Igbos were predominantly killed.

The Supreme Commander General Aguiyi-Ironsi and his host Colonel Fajuyi were abducted and killed in Ibadan.
On acknowledging Ironsi's death, Ojukwu insisted that the military hierarchy be maintain.
{He was the next, rather he needed preservation of hierarchy}
In that case, the most senior army officer after Ironsi was Brigadier Babafemi Ogundipe , should take over leadership, not Colonel Gowon (Note; the coup plotters choice), however the leaders of the counter-coup insisted that Colonel Gowon be made head of state.

Whereas both Gowon and Ojukwu were of the same rank in the Nigeria Army then (Lt. Colonel).
Ogundipe could not muster enough force in Lagos to establish his authority as soldiers (Guard Battalion) protecting or under his command were loyalist to Joseph Nanven Garba who was part of the coup who also supported Gowon, it was this realisation that led Ogundipe to opt out. {Saving his life}

In January 1967, the Nigerian military leadership went to Aburi, Ghana for a peace conference hosted by General Joseph Ankrah.

Aburi accord is as follows:

*. "Members agree that the legislative and executive authority of the Federal Military Government should remain in the Supreme Military Council, to which any decision affecting the whole country shall be referred for determination provided that where it is possible for a meeting to be held the matter requiring determination must be referred to military governors for their comment and concurrence.

*. Specifically, the council agreed that appointments to senior ranks in the police, diplomatic, and consular services as well as appointment to super scale posts in the federal civil service and the equivalent posts in the statutory corporation must be approved by the Supreme Military Council.

*. The regional members felt that all the decrees passed since January 15, 1966, and which detracted from previous powers and positions of regional governments, should be repealed if mutual confidence is to be restored.

The Latter;

Having agreed and returned home.
In response to the accord, the federal government promulgated Decree No. 8, which was mainly an embodiment of the accord.
The accord finally broke down because of differences of interpretation on both sides.
This led to the outbreak of Nigerian Civil War .

on 30 May 1967, after much deliberation, patient that the Nigeria government will one day understand the Aburi terms and finally the constant massacre of Igbos in the Northern part of Nigeria , Colonel Odumegwu-Ojukwu declared Eastern Nigeria a sovereign state to be known as BIAFRA:

On 6 July 1967, Gowon declared war and attacked Biafra.
For 30 months, the war raged on.

Now General Odumegwu-Ojukwu knew that the odds against the new republic were overwhelming.
Most European states recognised the illegitimacy of the Nigerian military rule and banned all future supplies of arms, but the UK government substantially increased its supplies, even sending British Army and Royal Air Force advisors.

On 30 June 1969, the Nigerian government banned all Red Cross aid to Biafra; two weeks later it allowed medical supplies through the front line, but restricted food supplies. Later in October 1969, Ojukwu appealed to the United Nations to mediate a cease-fire .

Even before the war, the area was net importer of food, depending on income from its oil fields to feed its populace.
With the blockade cutting off oil revenue and agricultural destruction reducing food production, the result was mass dislocation and starvation of the populace.
Two to three million people are thought to have died in the conflict, mostly through starvation and illness.

Inventories our War Lords

Starvation was used as a powerful weapon of war.
Undaunted, General Ojukwu and Biafra conceived and produced the Ogbunigwe, a cone shaped, sometimes cylindrical cluster bomb that disperses shrapnel with percussion.
It was also used as a ground to ground and ground to air projectile and was used with telling and destructive effect.
Ogbunigwe is what the white rebranded as 'weapon of mass destruction'.

Ojukwu and the Biafra RAP built airports and roads, refined petroleum, chemicals and materials, designed and built light and heavy equipment, researched on chemical and biological weapons, rocketry and guidance systems, invented new forms of explosives, tried new forms of food processing and technology.

Biafra home-made armored vehicle the "Red Devil," was a red terror in the battle field.
The Biafra shoreline was lined with home-made shore batteries and remote controlled weapons systems propelling rockets and bombs.

There was also the Biafran Organization of Freedom Fighters [BOFF] led by Colonel Aghanya.
These were the"so-called" Biafran rebels who in a space of less than three years, blockaded by land, air and sea, nearly pushed black African science and rocketry into the space age.

don't forget to tell them...the white who colonized us were not of us, they made use of a western formula to produce a formidable nation.

They believed the North has the man power, the population.
It was obvious the northern had a strong leadership system...they felt they are organized.
They also knew the western part of this nation has reasonable elites in place.
With the resource in the south
And the Domain educated elite, with resource em mass...

It was a won argument that the combination will surely guaranty a strong united nation,

It is an unpardonable miscarriage of history to remotely insinuate that Lt Col Gowon was the choice of coup plotters of July 29, 1966. All available evidences have suggested that Lt Col Gowon was an integral part of the coup plotters and active participant in July 29, 1966 coup.

Am sure its also equally an unpardonable miscarriage of history to insinuate that Zik and his NCNC party won the 1951 regional election in western nigeria for

over half a century. All available evidences points to it been just a fringement of you and your ilk's wide and warped imagination. Hey! but that still hasn't

stopped you ibos from regurgitating the same fallacious tales to all and sundry without once providing any shred evidence to substaintiate your wild and

malicious allegation.

An inquiry if Carried out to find out the people who Circumvented the Aburi Agreement should have been done today , these were the people responsible for the failure of Nigeria .

As at 1960 there was this forecast that Nigeria was going to make it to the Leading Nations of the world , Nigeria had more hopes,aspirations than South Korea . 50 years after Nigeria never made it to the first 30 Leading Nations but South Korea made it to the first 10 Leading Nations.
Because the wrong set of people took over the running of the Nation

south Korea is just 1/3 of the Population of Nigeria and the whole North of Nigeria is bigger than South Korea

US supported Gowon, except The UK, now who controls all the international bodies that could have looked into the derail of Aburi Accord and pronounce justice?

We must document this for our generations to see how we were ripped off.
