If a ≥0 ,b ≥0 ,c ≥0 ,d≥0,
show that:
(abcd)^(1/4) ≤ (a+b+c+d)/4

If a ≥0 ,b ≥0 ,c ≥0 ,d≥0

Then

(√a - √b)^2 ≥ 0

a + b ≥ 2√ab

(a + b)/2 ≥ (ab)^(1/2) ...1

similarly it can be argued that:

(c + d)/2 ≥ (cd)^(1/2) ...2

And using d rule
if x,y,u,v are non negative and x≥y and u≥v then xu≥yv

Hence from 1 and 2 usin d abov rule:

(a+b)(c+d)/4 ≥ (abcd)^(1/2)

Apply d rule:
If u≥v and u,v are non negativ then u^x≥v^x wen x≥0

Hence

√((a+b)(c+d))/2 ≥ (abcd)^(1/4)

(abcd)^(1/4) ≤ √((a+b)(c+d))/2 ...3

Using d rule: 2√uv ≤ u+v
whr u,v are non negative
and hence d RHS of inequality 3 is given as:

√((a+b)(c+d))/2≤(a+b+c+d)/4 ...4

On apply d law of transitivity
If u≤v and v≤w then u≤w

Hence on combinin d results frm 3 n 4:

(abcd)^(1/4) ≤ (a+b+c+d)/4

Quod Erat Demonstrandum

A ball when dropped from
any given height loses 20 per cent
of its previous height at each
rebound. If it is dropped from a
height of 40m, find how often it
will rise to a height of over 8m.
How far does the ball travel before
coming to rest?

try asap..

this is a series(GP) in this form: 40, 32, 25.6, . . .ar(1-n)

Tn = ar(1-n),
1st term a = 40m, common ratio r = 0.8m,

the ball will bounce in 67times by my calculation b4 comin to rest,
therefore, sum of the 67terms = approx. 200m

sundaylinus: help me with this once again. Sove By quadratic equation. If α and β are the roots of equation 3x²+5x-8=0. Find the value of α^4-ß^4

you should have used the idea they gave you earlier..

anyway
leme use A & B as my alpha & beta respectively

A^4 - B^4 =(A^2)^2 - (B^2)^2 ………………(N)

=> (A^ 2 -B^2) (A^2 +B^2 ) ............( E).....(Difference of two squares )

Now lets do some little derivation

(A+B)^2 = A^2 +B^2 +2AB....................(W)

=> A^2 + B^2 = (A+B)^2 - 2AB ..............(T)
&

(A-B)^2 =A^2 +B^2 -2AB.................(O)

=>A-B=√[(A+B)^2 -4AB ] ………… (M)..........( putting (T) .)

thus A^4 - B ^4 = [ (A+B)^2 -2AB ] [(A+B) ] [√[(A+B)^2 -4AB ] ]

NOW, GIVEN f(x) =3x^2 +5x -8 =0

sum , A+B= -5/3

product , AB = -8/3

=> [(-5/3)] [√(121/9) ] [73/9]

hence we

-4015/81
.

what is the number of people in the Plane?
Please help.

n(b)=9
n(i n (b u g))=5
n(m)=9
n(i' n b)=7
n(i)=14
n(i n (b u m))=6
n(i' n b' n m')=7

By implicatn from d above we have d@:
n(i n b)=2
n(i n m)=4
n(i n g)=3

n(i')-n(i' n (b u m))=n(i' n b' n m')=7
n(i')-n(i' n (b u m)=7
n(i')-n(i' n b)-n(i' n m)=7
n(i')-n(b)+n(i n b)-n(m)+n(i n m)=7
hence using d above info:
n(i')=19

the total number persns on the plane equals

n(i')+n(i)=19+14=33

2 Indian boys + 4 Indian men + 7 foreign boys + 7 foreign females + 3 Indian girls + 5 Indian women + 5 foreign men = 33 people

Total number of people in the plane is 33

To verify: the question says...

9 boys; which are: 2 Indian boys + 7 foreign boys
5 Indian children; which are: 2 Indian boys + 3 Indian girls
9 men; which are: 4 Indian men + 5 foreign men
7 Foreign boys;
14 Indian; which are: 2 Indian boys + 4 Indian men + 3 Indian girls + 5 Indian women
6 Indian males; which are: 2 Indian boys + 4 Indian men
7 foreign females
