benbuks:

take natural logarithm of both sides

=> lny =xlnx

differentiating implicitly wrt. x

we have 1/y dy/dx = lnx + x/x

=> dy/dx= f '( x) = y ( lnx +1 )

but y=xx

hence f ' (x) = xx (lnx +1 )

that's it
guy u are good.

If the position vectors A and B are (i + 2j + 4k) and (2i + 3j + 5k), find the position vector of point C that divide AB in the ratio 2:3. Find also the midpoint of AB.

P.S... now on break, guess I should be more frequent here now.

Please what is the formular for calculating percentage error

% error = error/true value x 100%
where error = measured value - true value.

E.g. A stick of lenght 1.75m was measured by a student as 1.8m.
Error = 1.8 - 1.75m = 0.05m.
% error = 0.05/1.75 x 100% = ...

[3(I+2j+4k)+2(2i+3j+5k)]/(2+3).
=[3i+6j+12k+4i+6j+10k]/5.
=[7i+12j+22k]/5.
guess u can do d latter quest

just take the average of those two guys. The midpoint then becomes 1.5i+2.5j+4.5k.

Please can anyone help me with the solution to this simultaneous equation?

d1 squared = (x - x1)squared + (y - y1)squared .....equation1
d2 squared = (x - x2)squared + (y - y2)squared .....equation2

where d1,d2,x1,x2,y1 and y2 are all constants

The solution should be given in terms of d1,d2,x1,x2,1,y2.

Thanks a lot.

P.S.

this can be solved either geometrically or algebraically. By geometry, it is easier since u are required to find the coordinate of intersection of two circles. Here's an algebraic proof;
d12=(x-x1)2+(y-y1)2.......eqn1

d12=(x-x1+x2-x2)2+(y-y1+y2-y2)2

d12=(x-x2+(x2-x1))2+(y-y2+(y2-y1))2
or
d12=(x-x2)2+2(x-x2)(x2-x1)+(x2-x1)2+(y-y2)2+2(y-y2)(y2-y1)+(y2-y1)2

substitute equation (2) in this last eqn and call it eqn (3), equation (3) will involve (x-x2) and (y-y2). From equation (3), substitute for (y-y2) in eqn (2) and solve the resulting quadratic in (x-x2)

bros, the alphabet involved is too much, so dont expect the final solution here

@calebsworld, here are a fewtips;
1. you have to develop a great interest for maths, and have that strong desire to become a maths guru.

2. Realize that there's nothing magic about mathematics.

3. make friends with people who appreciate mathematics.

4. practise as many maths questions as possible, starting from the very simple ones to more complex ones. develop the urge to solve them on your own, but you can always seek for assistance whenever you get hooked.

5. do not forget any new thing you have learnt, keep reviewing them.

6. learn to memorize some basic maths formulas as this will build your confidence.

GOOD LUCK grin
