jacob05: thanks., would be dual bootingAnd if you have a good system with about 4GB of ram and a VT capable processor, u might consider virtualization via virtualbox. Since all you need is an environment to develop ASP.NET might be too expensive to have a dualboot partition just cus of that. |

Try installing and consequently using desktop environment like: lxde, xfce, cinnamon they provide better optimization than unity(Ubuntus' default desktop) 1 Like 1 Share |

Ubuntu has a great package manager called Synaptic that lets you search for or find applications to install or remove from a list. You can check it out by going to System>Administration>Synaptic Package Manager. You can easily sort packages by category, their installation status, or by searching. If you find a package you want to add click it and select Mark for Installation. Once you’ve selected all the packages you wish to install, remove or upgrade at this time, click the Apply button. It’s as easy as that. However, not every application will be on this list and betas are usually never listed. In those cases you must go out and download the installer elsewhere and install it manually. Such is the case if you want the latest version of Firefox the day it comes out. It might take the repositories a day or two to get the latest versions. u have to close the repo and ask people to pay for the source..unfortunately the GPL does not restrict duchebag behavior while following the letters of the law. Some of this bloats were a necessary evil like things that enable auto detection from printers, to smartphone, modems (who still remembers the days of wvdial?) even monitor configurations has vastly improved from the days of manually editing xorg. However some other bloats are just aimed at beautification with little performance value. --------- ATI RADEON HD 5670 – SERIES GRAPHICS CARDS FROM AMD 1 Like 1 Share |

hi guys, I had issues with my windows which led to it getting corrupted, and I decided to give ubuntu a try. I have now successfully installed ubuntu, but now I want to install windows beside it and have a dual boot option, my question is, can I partition my drive within ubuntu for the new installation? |
Re: Ubuntu Linux by ciphoenix: 6:19pm On Oct 12, 2013 |

DonCrust: No, you can't edit partitions from within the os running from your hard disk, so I booted ubuntu via a live cd (try ubuntu option), accessed gparted, shrinked and created a new partition for windows, funny thing is dat it's so easy. It even shows the location of your data(os and etc) so u don't mess with it. |

Saucy is so boring! I mean its definitely faster, less buggy and feels more stable, but hardly anything has changed. And the new lenses are annoying. If I didn't need the better hardware support for my Ivy Bridge laptop, I probably wouldn't have bothered upgrading. |

Evil Brain: Saucy is so boring! Well look at the bright side, apart from the inconvenience of upgrading you are no worse off than before you upgraded I on the other hand decided to try xubuntu for the first time. Never been a fan of unity and kubuntu is more of a resource hog. I wish there was a version of u ubuntu that used mate out of the box |

Permission to derail thread pls @ 4llerbuntu, I've got a big problem. My Western Digital 1TB External Hard Disk now appears as a local disk in RAW format instead of a removable drive in NTFS and when I click on it to open, I get an "I:\ is not accessible The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable" error message I've got lots of important stuff on the External HDD so it's important I access it to copy my files. I use a windows 8 OS and I've tried it on other PCs running Windows 7 & Vista, and it's still the same thing I'll be grateful for any help I can get towards resolving this. See my screenshots www.nairaland.com/attachments/1360939_External_HDD_jpga58713f72b25c496aa79f8082b6060e0 www.nairaland.com/attachments/1361239_Disk_Management_jpg122933bee625b790d55f9e66676439cd www.nairaland.com/attachments/1361240_Ext_HD_Properties_jpgc506878520220be1a2ef80cfe9b3429a See my post HERE for the problem and the solutions I've tried without success Now, I'm only posting it here cos I've seen a very promising solution to retrieve my files from the RAW Ext Hard Drive but it involves the use of a Linux OS. I tried the solution but I was unable to boot my Hp Envy 17-J020us laptop with the PartedMagic CD I burnt. 4ller, I know you use an innate Linux machine and according to the fixitlitten link Linux OS is able to mount RAW file format. So please, looking at the link above, can you help me recover my files if I send you my bad Ext HDD and a new one to copy the files into? Everyone is invited to chip in. |
