Often I hear people say provision of good road, affordable health care services, potable water, good school and other basic amenities are the Dividends of Nigeria's nascent democracy. But I bet to disagree with this position.
Reasons are as follow:
Before the enthronement of this so called civilian rule, the past government have provided these amenities and services. In Kuwait, Cuba, China, Qatar etc just to mention but a few where there is no democracy provide these amenities in abundance. However, Dividends of democracy to me simply means: let the majority voice be heard! Our answers would shape our understanding of what the tenets of democracy are.
So to you I put the question: What do you understand by Dividends of Democracy?
