Today, President Obama signed 23 executive orders into law regarding gun ownership in USA. He did this while holding a press conference in which he outlined his vision and future legislative action to tackle the gun problem in USA.

What struck me was that the committee that was inaugurated to look into gun violence was assembled less than two months ago. The committee submitted its report last week, and the president took action today.

There was no ‘white paper’ no ‘committee to review committee’, and the committee did not take that long to complete its duty.



For those who think that being slow to act as an executive is a virtue, I ask them to watch how progressive countries run government.

A commentator on CNN said that the Obama was eager to get this issue off his plate because he has many issues to deal with as president. On his action plan for the next four years is immigration reform, tax reform, unemployment, Afghan war, etc…

The summary is that the president assembled his committee, told them what he wanted, gave them a short time to do the work, and took action immediately a report was submitted.

Kindly compare this with the Ribadu report which is gathering dust on a shelf at Aso rock, as well as the many reports which are being drafted into ‘white paper’ and ‘being reviewed by other committees’.

For those who do not realise it, GEJ has only this year left to fulfil any little remaining promise that he can fulfil. 2014 is an election year and nothing substantial will take place apart from politicking.

It seems Nigerians have wasted their time voting for a slow leader who is always promising things as if he is still campaigning for the Presidency. A president should be decisive and action oriented especially in a developing nation.

Multiply by the money allocated to each committee .
