How much are other countries paying? The explanation is incomplete. High Chief Raymond Dokpesi spoke so much incoherent wrong grammar yesterday, you begin to wonder whether the man achieved his PHD by vernacular. Thank God Ngozi is co-ordinating minister . Nigeria can't pay above what others pay. |

taharqa: Oh! You mean there is 'bad leadaship' in AIT, NTA, STV, LTV, CHANNELS, FRCN, MINAJ etc. Didnt know dat; plz wat do we do to remove d 'bad leadas' in these mostly PRIVATE organisatn who cud nt secure broadcast rights of AFCON 2013 for demselves and for us??....in your zeal to prove a ridiculous point,yo actually forgot that BON i.e. broadcasting organization of nigeria has a monopoly of those rights.what is BON?a government agency with budgetary allocation part of which it spends on acquiring rights like this one.those querying the decision have a point just as those asking for what happened to that budgetary allocation are right |

While I am not happy for not viewing the match on our local channels, I must commend BON for such stand, reason being that the amount quoted for Nigerian is twice that of South African not to talk of that for other smaller countries. while would such ideology like country population be used as the yardstick in selling broadcasting right. On the other hand, it's CAF's loss. In less than a month that should be a forgotten story, so what's the fuss. Better-still,Nigeria matches are liable to heart attack and should be at viewers discretion. 2 Likes |

I agree with Maku. Mehn think of it na, 4.5million Euros amounts to almost a billion naira if not more. South Africa is fond of exploiting Nigeria through the means of MTN and DSTV. Well, one day we shall have our own share when we will be hosting AFCON, they would pay 50million Euros. 1 Like |

IMO, this is a good decision from BON and the government, the agents was just trying to be exploitative. And to the critics of the government, question to be asked is if other countries were also billed same amount as Nigeria? The answer is No, there was no level playing field and the rogue agents already got their eyes on the Nigeria markets before coming up with such ridiculous amount. The government can easily pick up the bill or lured the private sector into picking the gauntlet but rebuffing those greedy capitalist is the best way to go, kudos to BON for even turning down any form of government support. Sport business is a big business and government should not be seeing diverting what is meant for the public into few private pockets. 2 Likes |

Igwe.:do you undertsand what viewing rights mean?how can you compare a country of 10million people to a country of 160million people?do you think MTN will pay the same amount to advertise in ghana as they would in nigeria?its all about the reach.the organizers of the AFCON are aware that the nigerian stations stand to make a lot more than the other countries from adverts.ecobank would rather buy advert rights for AFCON broadcast in nigeria than buy in benin republic or togo simply because of the larger population which means a wider reach for their bank even though they are localized in all these countries. its highly ridiculous for anyone to expect nigeria and cape verde to pay the same amount for broadcast rights 1 Like |

Esiere: The pricing obviously will be based on population. A leopard can't change its skin. A bad government can't think about masses first and put as second their own interests. Mr Maku enjoys every second of the AFCON because he has access to paytv . Go to Aso Rock, they are enjoy it. Mr Maku should stop insult the masses sensibilities. If it were to be something that will benefit them...they won't think twice befoe doing it. Mr Maku keep fooling yourself. Be truthful to yourself....is the money up to what you alone stole last year. Close to 170 million are meant to watch it.Oh Lawd! Anoda one is still repeating it. THE GOVT DOES NOT PAY FOR BROADCAST RIGTHS FOR SPORTS EVENTS, THE INDIVIDUAL STATIONS DO- do you undastad it now dat it is in caps?.... But sm of u hv brains yet cant use it. So d govt budgets and pays say #4billion to acquire a broadcast right, and then turns round and 'dashes' ALL d TV/Radio stations in d country dis right; then each of these stations goes to negotiate with d big brands who wud pay helll to advertise on their platforms. The stations pockets these huge advert money and thanks govt for its kindness, abi? What wud u call dat kind of a govt? Kai!! |

Who owns Super-Sport? Is it a South African Company? Maybe the charged Nigeria very high, so as to discourage free broadcast, and encourage more Nigerians to Subscribe to DStv? That being said, our leaders are selfish bunch of idi.ots.... It it's to fly the first lady to Europe for medical treatment, they have money for that.... If it's to cover Aso Rock's food budget, they have money for that.... Our leaders don't give a fuc.k about us..... |

Maxymilliano: IMO, this is a good decision from BON and the government, the agents was just trying to be exploitative.Do you know how much each public viewing centre rakes in from the sale of tickets for each match? Multiply it by the total number of matches (32). Sum them up nationwide and then tell me why six million Euros became a herculean task for the acclaimed giant of Africa? But a National Sports Commission secretary once told Nigerians last year January that they spent millions of naira to open a Facebook account for the commission. We are not all fools in this country |

For the very 1st time in their clueless lifetime, I am in support of a GEJ administration policy. *takes bow* The South Africans are f-ing cheats! The owner of AIT, Raymond Dokpesi, said the other day that SA paid $2M for the same rights LC2 asked Nigeria to pay $15M for They later came down to $8M and won't bulge from $4.5M which they are fixated on. For an already branded competition? With almost 8matches played? The man said they even asked to show only SE matches, LC2 refused! They see us as a cashcow. We shouldn't allow it. And to think there are some Nigerians supporting LC2 against their country's interest :\ I'll continue to stream the SE matches, then maybe the final. They can shove the rights up their racist a$$es. 1 Like |

Imagine, how are the investors expected to recoup their investments not to talk of making profit for a competition that last just three weeks? If it were like the Premiership spanning over 8months it could be worth considering. Besides, if Nigeria fails to advance to the quarter finals, semi-final or finals then it is worst for whoever puts his money there because viewership crashes as Super Eagles crash out. |
