lekibraky: what are we going to enjoy as a citizen if Ordinary Ghana is showing it live for its citizens. still on the matter 2015 PDP must go naani

So after continuous bragging about how Lagos state's economy alone was bigger than Ghana's, you mean to tell me that even Lagos can't afford to pick up the transmission tab on behalf of Nigeria?

Even Benin and Togo are broadcasting the matches live!

Please mind ur grammar, i believe BON was right in their decision, its high time we get our acts right.
Esiere: The pricing obviously will be based on population. A leopard can't change its skin. A bad government can't think about masses first and put as second their own interests. Mr Maku enjoys every second of the AFCON because he has access to paytv . Go to Aso Rock, they are enjoy it. Mr Maku should stop insult the masses sensibilities. If it were to be something that will benefit them...they won't think twice befoe doing it. Mr Maku keep fooling yourself. Be truthful to yourself....is the money up to what you alone stole last year. Close to 170 million are meant to watch it.

Delafruita:
Do you know how much each public viewing centre rakes in from the sale of tickets for each match? Multiply it by the total number of matches (32). Sum them up nationwide and then tell me why six million Euros became a herculean task for the acclaimed giant of Africa? But a National Sports Commission secretary once told Nigerians last year January that they spent millions of naira to open a Facebook account for the commission. We are not all fools in this country

The fact is that the requested amount was quite much for a 21 days competition, considering that the organized private sector is not what it used to be, the government could have easily deploy intervention agencies to aid the negotiation but sometimes, critical decision such as this need to be made to forestall future occurrence where Nigeria will be viewed as a readily cash cow to be milked all in the name of buying broadcast right...

We need to make the statement bro, if not now, then when?

and that statement means depriving nigerians of an opportunity to watch their team in the AFCON?what kind of people are these people?the fact that yo have DSTV doesnt mean everybody does.i had to deploy a teevee otside my office yesterday for a large crowd to watch the nigeria match.does that make sense?what then do the masses stand to gain from the government if not little things like this?4.5million euros is a measly sm that nigeria can afford to pay for the citizens to enjoy their soccer team.lets not forget nigeria didnt qualify last time and might not even qualify next time.this stupid decision just cost milions of nigerians the opportunity to see this generation of super eagles.if eventually nigeria wins(which i doubt),this stupid decision will have cost millions of nigerians the opportunity to see their nation lift a trophy.

If smaller countries like Ghana & Benin are being charged €2m,then itz wise for Nigeria to pay €1m,because we have d market & population.

good one from BON. enough is enough. DSTV has a large market in Nigeria, why didn't their right cover for the whole country.they have collected the market from local tv stations.

after this tournament i think BON and DSTV should have a round table talk.

HiTV warming up.

CAF is a big fraud...... Imagine the winner of AFCON 2013 will get just $1.5m. While dey've made over €20m from tv ryts alone and dey asking us to pay €4.5m dt means our money alone will be enuf to pay d winner, d second place n even d 3rd place team............ Bt BON no try sha

I really need to correct your impression about this tv rights of a thing but can't quote all of you.

1. The government is not supposed to take part in bidding for tv rights. That's for BON to do.

2. No money was budgeted for AFCON TV rights, BON will have to rely on sponsors.

3. The usual tv sponsors (telecoms and banks) backed out because Orange and Standard are the event sponsors.

4. Nigeria paid 2.2 million USD (about N350m) last year, why pay 4.5 million euros (about 935 million this year.

5. Zambia paid 1million euros for the AFCON TV
rights, why should Nigeria pay 4.5 million
euros?
Good job BON, we ain't paying a dime.

6. Its not as if we would win anyways...

Many nigerians go to school but lacks wisdom always blaming government for everytin,IT IS IN LAW OF CAF THAT THE GORVERNMENT MUST NOT HAVE ANYTIN TO DO WITH BROADCAST RIGHTS
olympics right=$100,000
world cup right=$700,000
now why would a godamn competition lyk caf demand €4.5mil for a common right whenn their goddamn price money is $1.5mil,$1mill for runnerup and the semi finalist go home with $750,000.sometimes i just wonder why caf cant deal with participating countries directly instead of selling rights to one goddamn lc2 located in benin republic and what caf do with all there money when they offer penauts as prize money.THANK U BON FOR DOING WHAT IS RIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME

in a nutshell,yo expect nigeria and cape verde to pay the same amount for broadcast rights despite the vast difference in population.perhaps you dont understand the concept.if we had a functional PPV system in nigeria, you'd understand how measly the 4.5million euros is when countries like ghana with less than one-tenth of our population pay close to 2million euros

It shows how wicked and empathetic Nigerian rulers are. Football is one of those few thing that give some measure of pride to an average Nigerian and now they are saying its expensive. I want them to tell me why Cameroon, a tiny nation compared to Nigeria in wealth can afford to show the match while not even participating?

Did other nation get a discount to show the matches? Why is it that when it comes to issue of public benefits, Nigeria dictators develop how to be prudence with money? This is coming from a nation whose president has fleet of personal assigned aircraft when 7 of the world 8 top economies has no such luxuries? A nation where almost every governor now has a jet to himself.

The money they stole from oil subsidy will pay for Nigerians to watch this matches 100 of times. This must be the last slap on the face.

ckkris: How much are other countries paying? The explanation is incomplete. High Chief Raymond Dokpesi spoke so much incoherent wrong grammar yesterday, you begin to wonder whether the man achieved his PHD by vernacular. Thank God Ngozi is co-ordinating minister . Nigeria can't pay above what others pay.
simple. Why should Nigeria pay higher than sa? Is our economic better than theirs?

This is business, if BON is buying the right for NTA which will in turn sell the right to local TV stations, they are all buying the right to generate income by advising for companies mostly telecoms, but if orange which is another africa telecom is hosting the AFCON itself, just like maku said, other telecoms will not show much interest which means BON might not even make the money they pay for the broadcasting right, becuz the local TV station too might not show any interest, from what I understand, nigeria broadcasting right fee is higher.

I watch the match on super sport and I've not seen MTN,GLO or etisalat advert on the screen you understand how the business works.

Nigerians will watch AFCON with or without broadcasting right....

Maybe they will learn a lesson from this, becuz by the time nigeria is not taken part in the broadcasting, they will sure loose millions of euro

“All efforts made by BON through the agent LC2 did not work. From eight million euros, they came to six million then 4.5 million Euro; so you can see that it is not a scientific charge, it is a kind of casino pricing.

[size=14pt] So only 4.5 million Euro is what Nigeria cannot pay for the citizens to watch their own country's match? What a shame!

Is Labaran Maku going to tell me that he does not have more than that amount in his bank account? Jeeez! sad
