Obi Announces Plan To Build Malls by Nobody: 11:19pm On Jan 23, 2013
eter Obi said that his Government would not relent in her faithfulness to Anambra Integrated Development Strategy by continuing to develop all sectors simultaneously, including the areas of commerce and tourism. Obi said this yesterday in justification of the plans by his government to commence immediately the building of  a shopping mall at the site of the  old Ikenga hotel, which is the only remaining project burnt down in 2004 that is yet to be rebuilt,  as well as the Lake Hotel and Convention Centre at the capital Territory.

While conducting some white men believed to be representatives of the companies working on the projects, Obi said that the idea of a shopping mall at the old Ikenga was in response to the need for a befitting shopping Mall for the Capital Territory. The popular opinion among those present is that a mall is better for Awka as the town already has many good hotels.

At the Agulu site of the Lake Hotel and Convention Centre, the Governor said that the project was in response to the calls since the time of Chief Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo for the development of the tourist potentials of the lake. “Many big organisations wanted to hold their Annual General Meetings in Awka Capital Territory but were deterred by the absence of befitting hotels and Convention Centres, with the Onitsha Hotel and Convention Centre going on, as well as the one at Agulu which we shall start in few days, I can assure you that the State would now have adequate and befitting facilities to hold any type of conference and house those coming from overseas conveniently, Obi said.”

Speaking on the availability of resources and enough time to complete the projects, the Governor said that his Government did not just wake up to think about these projects as they were planned.  His words: “We have conceived them since and saved enough money to see them through. Just watch and see what will happen. Not just these two, we are starting the Governor’s lodge, Legislative and Judiciary buildings in few days. We have the resources to execute them. We have the resources to aggressively execute and complete the many projects, including road projects we are working on.”

Good to see the mall craze.

It's a significant step up in the Nigerian retail sector.

obi is really trying considering the fact that he is one governor that rearly takes loan. I know some people will question this project as being un beneficial to the masses but he has always made it clear that he is pursuing a commercial and industrial agenda and that to me is a man with focus.

We can sponsor Jonathan in 2015 – PDP
THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, told a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that nothing forbids it from re-nominating President Goodluck Jonathan in the next electoral contest.

The party, which stated this on a day it urged the court to join it in a suit seeking to stop President Jonathan from seeking re-election, argued that “by the very tenor of the reliefs sought by the plaintiff, this suit questions the right of the applicant to sponsor one of its members for the 2015 presidential elections. The applicant herein seeks to protect its interest in the present action by this application.” read more http://newsjoint.info/we-can-sponsor-jonathan-in-2015-pdp

I am assuming road maintenance, bridges and all the necessary infrastructure is already scheduled and paid for or under construction since we have started building malls for spending of money that Nigerians don't have? Obi is a very interesting man.

Obi is a diferent politician i think. the conventional practice for nigerian governors has been to work work, towards the end of thier tenure they slow down probably to siphone funds. But as obi's tenure is ending he is becoming more aggressive to work

He's merely trying to save his face. AFTER 8 YEARS OF NOTHING AND NO WORK, HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW HE WILL FACE THE PEOPLE WHEN HE LEAVES GOVT HOUSE. AND NO REMARKABLE PROJECT THAT WILL BE SEEN AS HIS LEGACY IN 8 YEARS. HE IS TRYING TO PULL STUNTS. SAME OLE INFERIOR PROJECTS.

Why shopping mall?

Why not something that provides services and employers of labour like Hospital?

Are there no more shops in Anambra state?

The one fact i like about Obi. you dont just wake up and start a project, you save enough to see to the end of the project. Its better to save for 4years and build up totally within a year, making it a total of 5years than to execute a project with less fund and spend 10years completing it.

He built the Anambra state teaching hospital awka...go to Igbariam campus of Ansu and see things ursef.
he might nt have built roads in towns but he has built roads to ensure that all communities in Anambra have access.
Anambra never had public buildings but hire and pay landlords....go and find out, his excellency has built most of the important public building so the govt doesnt need to pay rents anymore. I only blame him for not working in towns like Onitsha and nnewi as he ought to so as to get more praises. But believe me Peter Obi is trying.

Yeah, keep building malls cause that's where the average "mama nkechi" or "papa bornboy" will go shopping for their food. Please governour, rather use that money to produce water for your people so they'll stop drinking from streams, address the erosion peopls so people won't continue loosing their lands. Leave mall building for the private sector, develop your populace and when they've got money to spend malls will flood your state.

Obi is the Man of his people. I'm not surprise seeing peoples talking bad of him cuz friend to all is friend to none. For interest of good let nobody compare him with a 419er/cabal(Ngige), He will be the worst thing ever happen to Anambra if He emerges as Governor. Obi is the Man of his people. They HAVE got money to spend. Wait till the mall opens and see if you'll find parking space there.

As for basic infrastructure like water etc, nothing stops him from tackling such issues even as he uogrades the state's retail sector through the support of mall building. Malls generate employment internally and externally. The average mall needs thousands of companies and individuals providing it services and support, as well as supplies. Malls boost economic activity.

Its only fools that compare Obi with Ngige! Many of Anambrians are political blind....
Kudos to Obi even if only to manage political crisis that have been destroying Anambra state since it creation.
The only people that's complaining about Obi is people from Anambra West, who blindly voted for UBA family, that's why Peter Obi can not do wonder in his enemies back yard. Ask people from Anambra North and central and they ll tell you that Obi is a messiah
Go to Enugu- Onitsha and see things by your self
N:B let Ngige come out and win his erection free and fair because the last time i checked it was Uba family that forced him to Anambrains
