Invasive Economy:
Governments remain primarily responsible for providing security and protecting their populations, keeping to the rule of law, negative economic impact pervade most countries of the world, this result from abuse of economic indices i.e high lending rate, over-taxation, lack of managerial skill by government officials.
Economically, corruption depletes national wealth. Corrupt politicians invest scarce public resources in projects that will line their pockets rather than benefit communities, and prioritise high-profile projects such as dams, power plants, pipelines and refineries over less spectacular but more urgent infrastructure projects such as schools, hospitals and roads. Corruption also hinders the development of fair market structures and distorts competition, which in turn deters investment (Transparency International, 2012.).
While poverty assessments have focused more on measuring poverty than explaining it ( This is now changing, with participatory poverty assessments that seek to directly tap the experiences of the poor).
Anecdotal and survey evidence reveal the cost of petty corruption to the poor. When access to public goods and services requires a bribe, the poor may be excluded. Given their lack of political influence, the poor may even be asked to pay more than people with higher incomes (Pioneering work in this area has been done by the Public Affairs Centre in Bangalore, which found that in five Indian cities poor households were much more likely to pay "speed money" for public services than households in general. See Sam Paul, "Corruption: Who Will Bell the Cat?" April 1997)
Furthermore, when corruption results in shoddy public services, the poor lack the resources to pursue "exit" options such as private schooling, health care, or power generation. (Helping Countries Combat Corruption: The Role of the World Bank, the world bank group)
Economy can be invasive when factors that are suppose to move the economy forward are abused at the expense of the citizen, Generally speaking as “abuse of entrusted power for private gain”. Economic invasion can be classified, Multi, Di and Mono-invasion, depending on the level of financial burden placed on citizen and the sector where it occurs.
i. Multi invasion: occurs when there is over-taxation , high lending rate by central bank and corruption among all tiers of government (executive, judiciary and legislative). Making the financial burden of running the government and economy lie on its citizen.
ii. Di-invasion: is a situation where two of these economic problems are observed in an economy
iii. Mono invasion: when only one of this economic problem is observed in an economy.
Grand corruption consists of acts committed at a high level of government that distort policies or the central functioning of the state, enabling leaders to benefit at the expense of the public good, due to position of these leaders making them accountable is often difficult and could a times cover-up from the masses, litrarily looking at these emerging democratic problems pave way for creation of the term Economy-Invasion………………
