shymexx: Why is Rigobert Song on the list?? grin - he was rubbish!!! grin

The great Oman Biyik needs to replace him asap - Italia 90 legend with the other guy with dreads(can't remember his name)...

I don't know most of the people on the list, however, some of them shouldn't be on that list IMHO..

Where's Diouf?? - he killed the 98 world cup... Heck, he also won the African Footballer of the Year twice...

I can't argue against Eto, Drogba, and the great George Weah!!! - African legends!!
was your mouth Song is the greatest defender Africa has ever seen, in his prime he was just unstoppable

chucky234: Sagamite must be drinking some cheap Korean alomo bitters to have put together a list as ridiculous as this,Kanu won UEFA Champions league aged 19yrs and was an important player at the then world's best football,Ajax Amsterdam and no African footballer dead or alive has ever achieve that fit.
Drogba was average with Marseille and only made his mark with chelsea,Kanu won CL,world club cup,3 dutch titles and 2 dutch cup with Ajax,UEFA cup with inter milan,2 EPL titles,3 FA cups,2 Carlin cup with Arsenal and 1 FA cups with Porthsmouth.

With Nigeria he won the U17 world at 16 and was the tournament 3rd most outstanding player,2 AFCON silver and 3 bronze,2 times African player of the year,Olympic gold medal, played in 3 world cup.

To me Kanu should be up there behind Eto'o in 2nd place.

Kanu did not win any Carling Cup o. grin

dayokanu: Sagamite No one from the Senegalese team who made the World cup quarter finals? or the Ghanaian team of 2010 Thats the highest thing an African team has achieved at the world cup

The 2010 world cup was bullshït. Besides, Ghana just had a good team and nothing else. Spain eventually won the world cup but apart from Cassilas and maybe puyol, no other player in that Spanish team will be included in a top thirty best ever European footballer list.

Lucas Radebe of South Africa and Leeds United was farrrrrr better than him... I'd put Taribo West before him... Heck, Taribo West played for the two Milan clubs when the Italian league was the best in the world!!!!

JARUS, DEMOCRACY? angry

J12: Where is the left footed devil called Patrick Mboma?

In top 100, somewhere below Oliseh, Fofana, Baba Camara, Oman Biyik, Hadji etc.

shymexx: If Essien is rated for the role he played in Lyon's champions league campaign(and the team was a complete team, btw), then Victor Ikpeba should rated for his exploits with AS Monaco in the champions league as well... Heck, Victor Ikpeba won the African footballer of the year - something Essien never achieved... I'm a life long Chelsea fan and Essien wasn't even the top 5 most important player for Chelsea from 05-07 - Drogba, Carvalho, Terry, Arjen Robben, Lampard, Gallas, and Makele made Chelsea back then...

Kanu is one of the most decorated African footballer ever and he deserves to be top 5 on that list... Heck, the guy overcame a career threatening heart surgery - and he was the sole reason why Nigeria won the 1996 olympics gold medal in football(the first by an African team)...

Jay Jay Okocha should also be ahead of Michael Essien - he's one of the greatest talents to ever come out of the continent, and one of the most famous as well... His only achilles heel is that he never played for a big club...

Kanoute won African footballer of the year. Something Okocha never achieved.

So Kanoute is better than Okocha?

otumfour: if peeps disagree wirh Saga's list, let them come up with their's.....simple!

We have already seen one from kabukabu! grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Sagamite:

The same Kanu that played 87 times for Nigeria as a striker, and scored less than Jay Jay that played 73 times as a midfielder?

The same Kanu who spent 2/3rds of his career on the bench?

No chance!

I am Sagamite, not a quack that is impressed by flash in the pan.

They played well as a team does not mean their players were great. Which of their players dominated European or African football over a long stretch?

NONE!

The Zambian players that won ANC are not great because they won.

El Hadji Diuof was a star in the Senegalese team.

He was 2 times African footballer of the year and made the the WORLD CUP ALL STAR TEAM.

After that he made a move to Liverpool. Many people on your list never achieved close to these

7. Thomas N'kono (Cameroun) - Goalkeeper
8. Michael Essien (Ghana) - Midfielder
9. Mahmoud El-Khatib (Egypt) - Striker
10. Joseph-Antoine Bell (Cameroun) - Goalkeeper
11. Hossam Hassan (Egypt) - Striker
12. Samuel Kuffour (Ghana) - Defender
13. Bruce Grobbelaar (Zimbabwe) - Goalkeeper
14. Kalusha Bwalya (Zambia) - Midfielder
15. Laurent Pokou (CIV) - Striker

You and I know that Jay Jay Okocha was cheated out of the trophy twice - first in 1998, and second in 2002 or so... He was clearly the best African player in 1998 by far and he was also the third most expensive player in world(his move to PSG)... He should've won it in 2002 or so as well, however, politics gave it to Eto Fils...

Do you know how long Rigobert Song played at the top level?

You are one of the flash in the pan impresionable youths. Diouf ko, Waldorf ni!

I don't care about how long he played at top level, however, he's top 50 on any list whatsoever - the guy lacked the required techniques and he was rubbish!!... If we're to go by your logic, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes should also be on the list of top 30 greatest footballers ever because they played at the top level for like forever!!! undecided

However, how many games did he play for Liverpool?? That's like saying Eric Djemba-Djemba also played for Man Utd loooool... grin

Luca Radebe was part of that great Leeds United team that almost conquered all - heck he was their captain!!

Taribo West was a regular for both Inter Milan and AC Milan at the peak of Serie A - playing against players like Ronaldo, Crespo, Batistuta, Del Piero, Zidane etc..

He absolutely destroyed the premiership and made Roy Keane and all the defenders in the league look like passengers!!! He was so good, BBC had to do a DVD about his skills... grin

Team of the week on numerous occasions and he was one of the highest scoring midfielders!!

One of the most efficient defenders Africa has seen, with 138 caps with African football's powerhouse at their peak.
