Sagamite:

Kaka and Ronaldinho spent many years at the top.

At least 5 years.

Never compare such people to Diouf.

Shining at tournaments does not make you great. Especially one tournament.

How many tournaments did Kaka shine ?

Did shone at Nations cup 2002 shone at the world cup the highest level of football the world cup

What 5yrs span did Kaka and Dinho spend at the top?

How many tournaments did Paolo Rossi shine at and he is still regarded as one of the best Italian players ever

Afam4eva:
I noticed you're not fond of Okocha but this Okocha you call a circus entertainer carried the Nigerian team on his back for so many years just the same wayy he carried PSG and Bolton.

Carried to achieve what? You too can carry Nigeria on your back to achieve nothing

At the time Okocha was playing there Bolton and PSG were second rate clubs

Going to sleep would be back

Then half of Africa will be included. You just cannot ignore the transcontinental impact soccer success brings. That's why Odegbami is rated so low.

I am sorry for not having sense! But for you that have sense, take note that the thread is talking about 30 top footballers in Africa and not the world. May be in comparison you would have asked me what Kanu or any other player on the list has done to Africa football.

The thread says "Top African" footballers.

If it said "top footballers in Africa", I can assure you 13 year old Stanley Okoro would top my list. grin

Who gives a shyt how many tournaments he shined in?

DK, I have told you several times: I AM NOT THE TYPE TO BE IMPRESSED BY TOURNAMENT SHINE!

I look at a player, his ability, the level he played at and how he can carry his team.

Kaka was consistently the best player or top 3 in his team with AC Milan, Real Madrid and Brazil for over 5 years. He controlled the game with those teams.

Are those Ogbomoso moin-moin teams?

Kaka was never top 3 player in Real madrid and whats the 5yrs time frame you mean Kakas peak was at 2007 and he never matched that height ever again.

Which player ability would you see in Okocha or what level did he play that no top club like Madrid, Barca Bayern, AC Milan would see and only Bolton, Fenerbahce and Eitracht Frankfurt would see

CAMEROONPRIDE: you kidding right? Nothing special? Check Afcon2000/2002/2004.

Why it is difficult to rate Camerounian players in tournaments is that the Lions have always been more of a solid unit than a collection of skilled individuals such as the Nigerian, Ghanian or Ivorian team. That is why Camerounian soccer isn't doing too well now. The skills are still there but team cohesion and solidarity is lost due to well documented problems. Thus if you want to rate individual players you just have to look at their impacts abroad. Eto in Spain, Italy, the goalies in France and Spain, etc.

Okocha was a commander and clubs that came for him needed a players that could single handedly take them to the promise land.

These very big teams are usually not a one man team. They have a combination of good players but not necessarily players with the kind of individual brilliance that Okocha possesses. So, i don't see Okocha fitting into that kind of setup. He does better when he's the one leading the team.
Re: Sagamite's Top 30 Greatest African Footballers Of All Time by slimghost(m): 9:48am On Jan 27
Nice list Sagamite, but pls and pls yank Essien's name off that list. Even Sunday Oliseh was a better player and achieved more both at club and National levels

What are the type of players that only excel at low level clubs and are not desired by top clubs. Zidane, Figo, Messi, Ronaldo Lima, C Ronaldo etc are all playing for top clubs

Top players play for top clubs, If you are good big clubs would come for you

In top 100, somewhere below Oliseh, Fofana, Baba Camara, Oman Biyik, Hadji etc.

Patrick Mboma was the highest goal scorer for the Cameroonian national team before he was replaced by Eto.
If Rashidi yekini made your list, Mboma deserves a spot there too. In my personal opinion, Mboma is way better than Yekini.

Saga bro am gonna fight you.All your arguments and counter arguments are top notch but i think u made a mistake. Not including aboutreika and Ahmed hassan,i mean these guys wont 3 consecutive afcons and abou like 3 or 4 caf championsleague.I think aboutreika deserves it IMHO.I dont like Diouf too but i think Dayo have a valid argument.2/3 years of flashness doesnt matter,he made a difference then so let him in.Van Basten has a short and fulfilled playing career too na

Go and look at WPoY list for 2009.

He was injured shotly after getting to Madrid. He was bought as their star player.

At least Okocha was playing and he is regarded as a God, not just a good player, in the teams he played for. Unlike Kanu that watched the matches live. grin

Go to Turkey and say you are Nigerian and see whether you will not get a free drink.

Theres no player that would decline top clubs and go to relegation battlers like Bolton

Have you seen any student decline Havard for Oko Poly?
