The Peoples Democratic Party in Oyo State has accused the state government of contract inflation in the award of the ongoing less-than a kilometre Mokola overhead bridge for N2.5 billion when a similar project of about 2.5 kilometres recently inaugurated in Ogun State cost N1.5 billion.

In a release by PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr Lukman Agboluaje, the party wondered why the project cost 60 per cent more in Oyo State while a similar one executed almost about the same time and physical terrain cost less, just as the party also demanded explanation on how council monthly allocation, which it said could be deployed to cushion effect of the demolition of structures, is being spent and by whom.

The PDP, therefore, called for the domestication of the Freedom of Information Act in the state to unravel the “grossly inflated” contract, “since the financial activities of the ACN government are shrouded in secrecy.”

But in a reaction, the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lambasted the PDP for demonstrating what it called “construction illiteracy” that it said was the hallmark of the PDP-led administration in the state, adding that “the PDP should be ashamed of itself for having imposed its naivety about road/bridge construction on the generality of the people.

Reacting through its Publicity Secretary, Mr Dauda Kolawole, ACN said the Lalubu-Ibara-Totoro Flyover project referred to in Ogun State is only 400 metres in length as against the 640-metre one being constructed in Oyo State, adding that the construction of roads, streetlight, landscaping and other ancillary facilities made the two projects different.

“We are awe-struck that a political party could advertise its naivety this shamelessly. What the PDP ought to have done was to demand the details of the two bridge constructions in both states and the details would have shocked it and avert this shameless plunge that it has made.

““It is apparent that the PDP is too illiterate to understand these facilities-rolled-into-one in the construction of the over-head bridge. For instance, the upgrading of all the adjoining roads of the walk-ways is included. This also includes a standard one-meter-by-one-meter reinforced concrete drainage. In the history of the PDP reign in Oyo State, it never had a road construction of that quality,” said the ACN.

I don't think you guys appreciate you are wasting your own time talking to this Mr.Globe character. He is solidly in the crew of those who will never see anything good about the SW. There is a gang of them here and they make it their business to always be negative about anything to do with the SW and the ACN Party which they ignorantly assume is the representation of Yoruba folks.

It is only folks in this gang who spend all day here talking about SW affairs far more than about events in their own part of the Country. The construction of the overhead bridge is a sheer waste of resources on its own, so whether the contract is inflated or not is not the issue. The state govt should have concentrated on constructing more link roads and improving the already existing ones rather than wasting money on useless overhead bridge.
This present Oyo state govt seems to be more concerned about flowers and landscaping than providing jobs and creating opportunities. I hold no brief for the PDP but the earlier ACN led govt retrace their steps the better.
