I would go with the 2,8 V6 30V quattro.

The AWD is maintenance-free, and does not require any different repair / maintenance procedures over the same engine in FWD. The 2,8 V6 makes 193 hp (Euro) or 190 (US). Nice and smooth to drive, though will have slightly worse gas mileage.

The 1,8 20V quattro is a pig. 150 hp + AWD + automatic in a heavy car is slow as balls. You would hate it. The 1,8 20V (assuming it's non-turbo) is a big slug too. Not one I'd want to drive daily, even if it was free. 125 hp + automatic = SLOW. Turbo models are not recommended, given the slap-dash attitude of the average Nigerian mechanic.

Siena: I would go with the 2,8 V6 30V quattro.

Thank you so much. 2.8 V6 30V is the answer.

What should I look out for when ordering for the car? I don't know if there are specific things about the car (specifications) I must tell the dealer to look out for?

And again chief Siena, I read some reviews on the car where I gathered that Audi A4 manual says to use premium gas with octane rating of 91. Does Nigeria fuel up to this standard?

I doubt there'll be any gasoline with an octane rating below 91, which is the minimum recommended for the Audi A4 B5 2,8 30V. So you should be fine. US octane rating are lower than that of Europe. So if the car in question is from North America, you shouldn't have any issues.

The lowest octane rating in the UK is 95.

Siena did u mean the 2.8 v6 or u actualy meant a v8. Is it a typo cos u own v8s nd working on one presently. Lol![quote author=Siena][color=#000099]I would go with the 2,8 V6 30V quattro.

I'm sorry to derail this thread a bit. Please Siena is it advisable to buy a 2002 Audi A4 1.8 T (A5) Quattro AWD that has a mileage of about 202,000km? I have one in view presently. I live in Lagos and intend using it at Most thrice a week. But on the average once or twice a week. Please your professional advise is highly needed.

I presume you mean Audi A4 1,8T Quattro B6? A5 is a completely different car.

I have just added a 2003 Audi A4 1,8T Quattro Avant B6 to my fleet, and whilst the 1,8 turbo engine performs well (190 hp) it's not Nigerian mechanic friendly. The K03 turbo (yours is 163 hp) will not be able to find in Nigeria.

If you're set on the Audi A4 B6 (and why not?) I would advice you go for a 2,0 20V (Euro) 2,4 V6 (Euro) or the 3,0 V6 (Euro / North American). The 2,0 20V is the easiest to work on, and will give the best gas mileage.

Bear in mind though, the 2,0 20V is not available as quattro, so you'll be looking at FWD. 2,4 / 3,0 V6 however are available in quattro guise, with the 3,0 exclusively quattro.

Thanks so much Siena. I believe from your response that if the dealer of the car in question who already has it in Nigeria as I speak had consulted you, your opinion would have been to discourage him from importing such engine model right?

^^^ Bro, I've said all I can. The 1,8T is not a bad car, it's just not Nigerian mechanic friendly, unless you use an Audi-Volkswagen dealership / franchise. It's strictly a no-roadside-mechanic car.

Out of interest - does this car have any history? At 125,000 miles, it should have had one timing belt replacement, it's almost due its second replacement. If there's no history, I would factor that into the asking price as an
urgent replacement item, don't accept the seller's word it's been replaced.

Thanks Siena. I'm a detailed minded person maybe to a fault. So I'm sorry if i streched you beyond limit on this issue. I just established that not all "beastly"cars will bring happiness. Audi seem to be a popular brand in Nigeria and I never thought this could have been an exception. I almost committed myself to a life of sorrow. Thanks a billion.
